I can't see Michigan State being as good as Illinois was last year. I don't see how Illinois won't decline, either.
Michigan State is basically the exact same in my metrics that called for Illinois to surprise last year.
MSU was good, statistically, in B10 play, lost a bunch of close games, and return the best running back in the conference.
Ringer demolishes Hill, but he and Wells are very very close.
Ringer had more ypc than Wells behind a far far far worse OL, but Wells was only a SO.
firsts happen every year and he hasn't played much OOC competition in LA.
the list of names sounds decent, but the actual teams absolutely sucked. Arky was probably the best team on the list and they were essentially playing without a QB.I was glancing over Southern Cal's OOC home slate since Carroll's been there and they have lost 1 regular season OOC game in LA during his tenure. Game #2 as a head coach they lost to Kansas State. And their home OOC schedule has included the following teams:
Kansas State
San Jose State
Auburn
Notre Dame (a couple of times)
Brigham Young
Hawaii
Colorado State
Arkansas
Fresno State
Nebraska
Idaho
Not a bad list of opponents. Could be better, but not bad by any means.
This was supposed to be Ohio State's big year anyway, not last year. The Big 10 should suck even more than usual this year, so OSU has an excellent shot to go through the league undefeated. Everything for them depends on the game at USC; win that, and the path back to the title game is wide open. Lose that, and it probably won't matter what they do the rest of the way.
