@MemphisVolFan1978 ,

This is what I'm talking about .... this forum does not appreciate that just 4 years ago we were "light years from being" mediocre. This forum is exclusively the legion of the miserable.
And then we have the settlers....They just enjoy the pretty lights...the Vol Navy...the tailgating. They just settle and never stive to be part of the elite. How long you and others going to hang on to the 4 years....The Kiffin cluster...Dooley...Butch Jones?

This is the age of the NIL...portal. This isn't the gonna have to recruit high schoolers and rebuild the next 3 years anymore.

Settlers will make excuses....Winners expect results and no ass whippings.

You can say we "benefited from a favorable schedule" but that really is just based on Oklahoma being uncharacteristically mediocre.

In most years, a road win over Oklahoma will not be easy .... it wasn't easy for Alabama even this year.

.... and does the mood of this place have to be so sour all the time? Even on Christmas Eve? It's weird how down in the dumps some of you always are.

If following Tennessee's sports teams makes you miserable, maybe you should do something else? Just a thought.
Going into the game there were 3 things that concerned me.
1. Strength of schedule. We lost bad to Georgia, who are good but not near the teams of the past ~7 years. Our SOS in the SEC was 15th out of 16 teams.

2. Talent. No team since recruiting rankings started have won it all with less than 50% blue chips. We have less than 50% but barely. Every blow out the first round was by teams with >50% blowing out teams with <50%.

3. Nico. He does not have good stats against decent defenses. He combined for 4 TDs against Bama, UGA, Florida, Arkansas, and Ohio St. There's receivers running open but he's not seeing them. If he's not throwing to open receivers he's not going to pull the trigger and hit the windows.

I don't buy that.

Strength of schedule formulas will always benefit the lesser teams who aren't penalized by playing themselves. In other words, Mississippi State benefits from not having to play the worst team in the league, as Tennessee did by playing them.

Among SEC teams, Tennessee's strength of schedule was average. Clearly not as tough as that of Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss or South Carolina .... but not next to last either. We were about average.

Right. At UF, at bama, chalk them up and start figuring from 0-2.
By the time we go to Gainesville, Florida will have already played

@ LSU
@ Miami
Texas
@ A&M
UGA
@ Ole Miss

Very real possibility Napier is already fired by then and their team has phoned it in. If they don’t win at least 2 of those games we’ll most likely be facing an interim coach.

There is not one thing that anyone on this board can do to move the needle on winning or losing. It doesn’t make a bit of difference to the team if I as a fan “settle” or “strive” for a win. I don’t know that means.

It’s recruiting folks. We cannot compete with the big 4 (Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon) when we sit at 8,9, or 10 in recruiting rankings.

Our coaching staff did an amazing job with a freshman quarterback that can’t throw well, an offensive line that can’t pass protect, receivers that can’t stay healthy, a fumble happy running back. Defense played really well for not having depth other than the line.

If Tennessee wants to really compete, match NIL money with the top 5 schools. We currently sit around 15th in the country on NIL funds.

How do we, as alumni, as fans, become elite?

Napier's not getting fired next year. Watch out, he may just turn the lizards into a very good football team.

I don't come here to pump sunshine. It's obvious. I do give them credit getting to 10-2 though. That was a feat with the offense looking like it did most of the year. We benefitted from a favorable schedule and got two of our big rivals at home. Won't be that way next year..

So, in a 13 ounce glass, you got 10 ounces of the good stuff. And you see the glass as 2-3 ounces empty.

You are entitled to your view.

Welp it's like IS. If you are OK with some bully taking a big swig of your "13 ounce drink" EVERY time you crack one, "have at it hoss." Cuz that's what you will get under current conditions.

Don't sell Napier short. He already came back from the dead, and won his bowl game. UT BARELY beat Struggling UF this year at Neyland. After that schedule, Tennessee will be just the tonic needed. Don't people on Signal extrapolate?
