These other schools better get us while they can, because our program will not be down long if any at all. Born in Tennessee, Live in Tennessee and If you don't like our state, Leave!
Good post LIO.

I'll always be "All Vol," but this one has left me with a good bit of resentment.  Before the game, the general sentiment was that if we could come out and really click on offense, it would make up for the poor showing thus far in the season.  Instead, we laid a BIG, FAT egg (don't count the last second TD in junk time, and, no, a 1/4 yard QB sneak does not count, either).

Remember, we had a preseason #3, a RB Heistman-hopeful, and one of the top receiving corps in the country.  That's not the team that should scrape by a mediocre UAB defense, get shut down by an overrated UF defense, get shut out for a half by a poor LSU secondary, stumble through a POOR Ole Miss team, and then come back with a "redeeming" performance like we saw on Saturday.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to hold some folks accountable, and I think we are beginning to accept where that starts.

Pretty much my feelings exactly! I absolutely LOVE my Vols, and that's the reason I'm mad as h**l. With all of the talent we have on offense, there's no reason to perform at the poor level we've been at all year. It all goes back to coaching.

Still and always will be a Big Orange FAN, it hurts when we lose feels great when we win,
I'm here in WNC, Murphy NC and I see more T's on cars than any other school, other than the Big Orange I see quite a few G tags and a lot of UF and FSU people and man it really hurts to lose to any of those teams but all in the same year ya got to be kidding me, I know we don't play FSU this but you get my meaning.
I know I have only a few posts but doesn't mean I'm a new fan, my mother is from Maryville and I have a lot of relatives from that area. started going to Vol games in the mid 70,s at the time UT would send tickets to the high school to give to the football players, went to several games that way. Played against Jimmy Streeter from midgets all the way thru high school, beat him one year, the year we won state. Watched Carl Pickens from grade school thru the pros, Shuler, saw him tear up Murphy several times, Shawn Bryson, Murphy was able to stop him I don't how, Al Wilson from Asheville, J. Crompton Waynesville a lot of good Vols have come out of this area because the Vols are loved far and wide, my heart is heavy right now but win or lose I'll always be a Big Orange Fan, ......think I'll go get a big Orange drink now. :good:

Guys and girls, I am officially apologizing for any negative sentiment that I have expressed on this board after the UGA loss. After a lot of thought I have come to the conclusion that I'd rather be a fan of a losing Tennessee team than ANY other team with an undefeated record.
So I'm making it public. I believe my Vols will come back and earn our respect BUT if they don't, I am still 100% Volunteer!

Anybody with me??

I am 100% behind the TEAM. I always support my VOLS, and I bleed so much ORANGE blood that the Red Cross is considering changing their name up here to the Orange Cross.

I'm with you and our Vols LiO, but I am having a really serious time here being excited about our coaches. These boys deserve better coaching than they are getting, so something's gotta happen there.

With that said, GO VOLS...BEAT the BAMMERS back to the woods!!!!!!!

LOL...Bama sounds WAY too confident.

Regardless of our problems, I wouldn't count on that game as an automatic win. LSU did that. Look where it got them.

I am ALWAYS with the Vols.

The problem with the current season is the feeling that the Vols are not playing their best. If they play their best and still lose, you can still feel pride... but to stumble through a game with 12 penalties and numerous special teams break downs is very frustrating. However, all hope is not lost for the season.

Remember 1988? That was an even more hopeless season. The Vols had just come off a 10-2-1 season where freshman running back Reggie Cobb had rushed for 1197 yards and 17 TDs. Cobb was back and the season seemed to have so much promise. Jeff Francis was poised to break several Tennessee passing records and the Vols were ranked 18th to start the season.

The season opened on the road at No. 12 Georgia. Francis passed for 354-yards, the Vols could muster only 52 yds rushing and a key goal line stand late in the 3rd quarter propelled the Dawgs to a 28-17 win over the Vols.

Despite 182 yards rushing from Reggie Cobb, the Vols were upset in their home opener by Duke. The Vols were behind 31-7 entering the 4th quarter but come up short to Steve Spurrier's Devils' 31-26.

The Vols offense was held to less than 200 yards and the No. 9 LSU Tigers piled up 503 yards of offense in a 34-9 blowout in Knoxville.

The Vols season did not get any better when they were held to less than 200 yards of offense for the 2nd straight week in a 38-6 loss at No. 4 Auburn.

The Vols lost their fifth straight game of the season by getting blown out 52-24 by unranked Washington State. The Vols had 376 yards of total offense, but had trouble getting the ball into the endzone. The Cougars did not have the same problem, scoring at will with only 318 yards of total offense.

Johnny Majors sensed his job was in danger, being 0-5 with No. 20 Alabama upcoming... made a few coaching changes. The Vols responded with their best effort of the season albeit a 28-20 loss to Alabama. Linebacker Keith Delong made 19 unassisted tackles, intercepted a pass, sacked the Tide quarterback once, and had a tackle for loss. Although it was another loss, it was different from the others because the Vols appeared to play their best in the midst of diversity.

The Vols rallied down the stretch winning their last 5 games:
38-25 Memphis State
10-7 Boston College
20-12 Ole Miss
28-24 Kentucky
14-7 Vanderbilt

Although that team finished 5-6, won no championships, did not go to a bowl.... I was proud of the way they hung in their and did not fold. And that never-give-up mentality carried over to the next season when the Vols finished 11-1 and won the SEC Championship.

So I am not giving up on the Vols yet. They already have 1 win over a top 10 team. I fully expect them to correct the mental mistakes and take care of business the rest of the season. I also fully expect them to notch 2 more victories on the road over top 10 teams. Watch them finish 9-2 (6-2 SEC) and go to a good bowl game.

AV, I sure as heck hope you're right. Like I said before, a win over Alabama would be worth losing all the rest of our games. (ha ha)

The key here, which you so eloquently reminded, was that Majors sensed his danger and MADE CHANGES. A lot of people around here feel that is an improbable, if not impossible, hope when speaking of Fulmer. I've made my case: if he wants to salvage not just this season, but the respect of the fans, the media, and future recruiting/success -- something's got to give. Drop Sanders politely, relinquish the offensive reigns to a new system and OC, and move forward into the 21st century. For this season (as getting a high-profile OC mid-season is not going to happen), I think he should take charge of the offense and let it hang out a little. Put in the QB who actually gives you a chance to make plays and win, even if it means sufferring through a few "growing pains." Finish strong, hopefully dropping one loss at the most, to a top-10 team, and go forward into 2006.
