Josh Smith won't be seeing the field next year.

North Pig Pearson and probably Helm.

Smith had opportunities and he blew them.

Croom, Paul Harris, Jenkins, Booth, Wharton

That's not counting if we add Josh Malone. Smith is being recruited over. He shouldn't even be playing on the outside. He's tailor made for the slot, but since we have Pig, he's having to play out of position.

Smith is tailor made for Carson-Newman.

Smith is tailor made for Carson-Newman.

He thrived off an Air Raid HS offense with a decent QB. He put up video game numbers against sub par competition. He comes to one of UT's camps and supposedly lights it up so we offer.

I was taking the wait and see approach with him. Well I've saw all I need to see. Very unimpressed. Creates decent separation. I'm not sure if he could take a shotgun snap without dropping it.

I don't want to sound dumb and be off topic at the same time, but would someone explain exactly what "being recruited over" means?

We have guys coming in (Pearson and hopefully Malone) that will take away reps from Smith.

Better talent coming in to replace someone is the best way I can put it.

For instance, Tom Smith and Alden Hill are being recruited over by Jalen Hurd, Treyvon Paulk, and probably DJ Law.

It something that needs to be done to be successful and get rebuilt in the SEC.

Why don't we try something novel and let a player get significant experience and grow into the position?

Have you looked at next year's schedule? How many wins do you see regardless of who is behind center?

Next year isn't going to be much better than the current one. We may very well have a talented group of recruits coming in, but they will still be inexperienced and adjusting to not only SEC football, but college life in general.

:lolabove:Truth spoken. I believe we'll see a better team than this year's team. I also believe Butch will coach better also. He will have more talent to work with.
GO VOLS!

Not sure he wouldn't drop a shotgun snap without dropping it? I am.

Agree with you. Feel bad for a young man who obviously does everything right in practice, who's worked his tail off to start at a D1 SEC school. Unfortunately that hard work, for him, just doesn't translate to Saturdays. He has the yips and who knows if they can coach it out of him or if he just gets recruited over or moves on. I'll say this... our staff, starting with Butch, has been unbelievably patient well beyond a fault with him.

He's 6'5 and 225 lbs and plays like he's DY's size. Unbelievable.... I really thought he would make an impact this year on the outside. Only 1 significant catch.... his Oregon TD.

He needs to play tougher period. He plays like he's a finesse guy. His measurables say otherwise. He needs to attack the ball.

I think there is a chance Croom will get moved to TE this offseason with the new receivers we have coming in. I'm not sure that will help anything though. He needs to get physically tougher.

Plus, why did Dobbs only have 53 YDS?? Did he drop the passes he threw to himself?

The Vandy players didn't drop the ones he threw directly to them.

All the unbased Dobbs worship from the beginning of the year has proved to be foolish as expected. He may well develop into a fine SEC QB in a few years. I hope they red shirt him next season to give his plenty of time to reach his potential.

Any unbiased observer could see Worley was beginning to turn the corner in his development. While he certainly has his limitations, he was managing the game well and his passing was coming along. Hopefully he will be fully healthy to start next season and this young group of receivers will mature to provide a respectable offense next season.

The 2015 season will then have 2 red shirt sophmore QB's competing for the starting job to throw to a seasoned group of Wide outs. With the maturing of this current recruiting class things should get exciting again.

I don't know who will be or should be the QB next year but I do know the coaches must feel the future QB is on the current roster because they have not aggressively pursued a QB for this recruiting class.

it is way to early to start worrying about next year, there is still a game to be played

a recruiting class to get signed.with a good sized crop of JUCOs and early enrollees with a group of stud players wanting early playing time

then spring practice and the orange and white game, which will be interesting to say the least

then time to decide who will be starting during fall practice

which means I think they may get 6 wins and it will probably between Ferguson and Worley as to who starts, who knows though, maybe Petermen will come on strong, maybe Dobbs will show a huge improvement during the off season

but it should be fun to see how it all unravels, actually it looks to be a pretty big swing year for the Vols, all i can say is

Go Vols

He did all that in 3 games? Really? Guess im wrong then, Worley's the one. Why on earth did CBJ ever open the QB competition while back? what say you factboy?

Did Worley not accomplish all of the things that I listed?
Sway me with the accomplishments of Dobbs.
Btw "factboy" made me chuckle.

I believe we have a great QB. It maybe be Dobbs,Fergy, or Peterman. Who knows which. My point is the instant gratification our fans have is crazy. NO QB on earth past or present is going to turn around our entire offense in 3 games.....Heck, no coach can.

So, Worley fits the type of offense the coaches are trying to build? HE IS a Junior right? we are rebuilding and wont be on Worleys schedule.

If Riley Fergy doesn't win us the first 3 games next year if he plays, What's VN back up plan? Worley throwing into the dirt or Pig Howard, or what?
What if Riley cant control if Josh Smith can't catch the ball?
Will Riley majically make the receivers catch the ball?
Give Dobbs some time....we supported Worley ground the ball much of the season and Riley is as unknown as Dobbs considering the WR's we have. Trust the coaches till we see more.

I take Riley with his new receivers. There are some stars in the making.

I would have Pig return kicks and punts - he is to short for a WR
