Okpara POG

He had a good game, but ZZ being able to break down the defense and get in to the lane in the second half made the difference for this win IMO. He quietly ended up with 16 points.
That was one of my big takeaways from this game. More ZZ dribble penetration and less dribbling around the top of the key. Wouldn't hurt Mashack to take it to the hole more either.

Always gonna be ugly when we play these guys. Their coach was with Barnes for a lot of years and knows our offense better than our players. He knows how to stop it. I’m proud of Barnes for changing it up and using 2 guards for the high ball screen to free up ZZ to get down the lane and create. I also thought it was pretty funny that their coach knew he couldn’t beat our team defense so he just didn’t run any set plays. Just spread out and get your best player playing one on one. A real compliment to Barnes and his system.

He held up really well switching off on guards as well, generally avoided getting blown by. Aidoo could not do that. We are able to switch 1-5 without depending too much on help. He is a really good fit for our system. Going to enjoy watching his offense develop over the offseason into next year!

Agree, Texas length and shot making nuetralized our perimeter players but Okpara gave us a clear advantage inside with his play.

Dubar was big, too. We showed what we need to do more of towards the end of the game.
Dribble penetration!!
Exactly...ZZ played great and Okpara had a nice game but we don't win w/o Dubar. I was screaming at ZZ after the 1H where he seemed hesitant to take the open driving lane on more than 1 occasion.

I don't understand why we aren't having Mashack cut around the basket more like we did there in the 1H - he has more than shown he can finish around the rim. Also, I would like to see us work him from corner to corner along the baseline continuously, one, because he has shown he is much more comfortable shooting the 3 from there and, two, it would create opportunities for him to pop into the lane from under the basket or slash to the paint from the corner when his defender falls asleep.

It's dicey to have him down low or in the corner on offense because his transition defense us so important. Of course he has to drive it if the lane's there but I'm not sure about having him that deep when the other team rebounds and starts their break is idea.

Dubar’s path to more PT will be through defense. I’d have to go back and watch how well he played on D.
