OL PFF Grades vs UF

Maybe heard isn’t full healthy idk. More than anything the lack of effort is concerning

I think rotating Heard and Johnson would be a good idea, we can coach up one while the other is trying to cement themselves as a starter
I think he's healthy enough, but the kid is woefully out of shape and appears to be a bit soft. Not a lot of dog in him. The old adage of fatigue make cowards of all might apply here. The thought of rotating makes a lot of sense to my meager brain. They do it with Campbell so why not do it with Heard? Seems to also be quite beneficial on the DL although the "continuity" concern might not be as critical on the DL. If Heard actually plays himself into moderately decent shape, it would be huge for the second half of the season. Not counting on it, but hey, I didn't think we'd beat UF and sit here at 5-1 with Bama coming to town either.

Campbell playing average at best and getting so many stupid penalties is the worst part of all that. Its expected a redshirt freshman is going to struggle against SEC talent.

What’s not expected is that a 7th year senior is going to whiff on blocks, get numerous drive killing penalties, argue with refs when he is LITERALLY on the jumbotron with his hand inside the opponents shoulder pads, and getting personal foul calls after the whistle blows.

Anything under 70 is not average. This has to improve for the offense to have any chance to get on track with any consistency.

Mays 75.8

Davis 63.9 (10 plays)

Lampley 61.6 (10 plays)

Campbell 55.6

Karic 54.8

Spraggins 51.4

Heard 38.3

One of these is not like the others. I’d like to see Johnson III get a shot
It's a damn same we retained almost they entire OL from last year and they're playing like garbage!!

It’s time to start Davis and Larry Johnson. Period. Can’t get much worse.

If Heard isn't healthy enough to play better than the last two games, then he needs to sit, no matter how much NIL he is making. The backup I'm sure would at least be somewhat better than Heard. Boy did we shafted on this Heard deal !

PFF is not the end all be all that it is often considered

One of the biggest criticisms of PFF is in the rating of offensive lineman because the "expert" watching the film has no idea of what the player's assignment is that he's grading.

Bill Belichick admits his limitations studying film, challenges accuracy of PFF
I seen this from multiple people that talk about film study. The absolute value of the number is probably bogus. I have also seen it reported that our blocking schemes are sometimes unique.

Flip'em around and get someone quick on the outside. Put Heard on the inside where he can just stand up and be effective. Thats how little I know about the Oline!

Heard is still hurt. He has to be....i just dont believe he would be playing the way he is otherwise. There are plays where he does nothing. I dont believe a man trying to get paid would put this stuff on film otherwise.

Campbell single-handed had 3 penalties for 35 yards and one large play called back.

Boooooooo!

It is basically a model. And for a model, it's quite a bit of a black box for OL. And then, how can they even validate it if they don't know the assignments?

For OL, it seems like it would be useful if they kept the inputs very coarse. 🤷‍♂️
