What happened to Weatherd? I have not heard anything about him since day 2.

Anyone have any news on his development?

Nothing happened. They're just going to keep repeating themselves by saying physically he looks the part, but has a ways to go to catch up. Which is status quo

The last I heard of him is that he is extremely athletic, but has no clue as to what his assignments are and a long way to go. Some guys learn the mental game less quickly than others so he is certainly behind the early enrollees. I suspect he will have a hard time making the two deep this season. I expect we could see a lot of him on special teams hopefully he will excell there as he learns the system.

With Hurd and several others.. We are 20 deep at the TE

I'm sure Jones is trying to find ways to get max talent on the field. I like Hurd vs. a linebacker as a tight end. This could be a smokescreen for Oklahoma. Believe me they are aware of Hurd.

He's not a tight end. At all. He's more likely to wind up wide or in the slot than at tight end

No, I haven't either. Butch as done an excellent job this preseason of keeping the media out of his business, and the expectations low for the season.

At least early on we'll mostly see him in the game to rush the passer most likely. It's what he does best and he hasn't had as much time as the other OLBs to get the playbook down.

I will let Jones make that call.

He did. When he has only had Jalen practice with the RB's. And when he recruited him as a RB. And when he talks in his interviews about what a great RB he will be. And how Coach G talks about how well he does in RB drills.

Agree, did they run him at TE yesterday?

Hurd was terrific at running back in the first scrimmage. He will be playing running back this season unless he grows to 6'7". The guy can run over linebackers is hard to bring down he will get plenty of carries this season.
If for some reason he grows to 6'7" then Tyndall could use and inside player on the basketball team.

Young guys I think are in the two deep on defense are Barnett and Bates. Hendricks seems to be there as well although he is not playing at the level of Barnett and Bates.
Hurd is gonna hurt some safeties this season when he gets in the secondary. He is a running back we will not see him playing anywhere else.

Yeah, but don't expect it to last, apparently Jones was singling Jalen out over the mic for blocking too upright. Their going to try him on the D Line next week to see if he can provide some needed depth. If that doesn't work the plan will be to redshirt him and have him gain 60-70 lbs before next season where he will be reevaluated at Left Tackle, if he isn't too tall by then.

I'm hearing he may be too tall for OLB so he will be seeing reps at place kick holder and assistant water boy. ........

And if this doesnt work the plan is for Jalen to lose 37 pounds and take over the Vol Network Radio broadcaster position fron Bob Kesling.

prob will see Weatherd on Special Teams and rushing the passer. He has a ways to go with the scheme but he can go get the passer off the edge and he can chase down kickoffs. Both are things that help you win so ill take it.

Doesn't mean anything. We also haven't heard much on Paulk, G. Bryant, Gaulden, McDowell, and D. Scott but it doesn't mean the sky is falling on their development.
