OLB Chris Weatherd

The last I heard of him is that he is extremely athletic, but has no clue as to what his assignments are and a long way to go. Some guys learn the mental game less quickly than others so he is certainly behind the early enrollees. I suspect he will have a hard time making the two deep this season. I expect we could see a lot of him on special teams hopefully he will excell there as he learns the system.

He just got here guys. He didn't participate with the team over the summer. He is way behind. Prolly why they moved him to DE one day. Less thinking on the line, especially if they just want to use him as a pass rusher in definite passing situations allowing him to use his athletic ability. Bottom line, you don't come into camp without any prior knowledge and pick it up in 5 days. He may get some lb work by mid season. He is just way behind.

Any talk about how slow he is picking up the defense is absurd. He's right where he should be considering he just joined the team.

Yeah, but don't expect it to last, apparently Jones was singling Jalen out over the mic for blocking too upright. Their going to try him on the D Line next week to see if he can provide some needed depth. If that doesn't work the plan will be to redshirt him and have him gain 60-70 lbs before next season where he will be reevaluated at Left Tackle, if he isn't too tall by then.

See....it helps to have a sense of humor!
Go Vols

I see a senior day where...if he doesn't declare...Jalen is still being fantasized as a TE...after starting for most of three seasons at running back.

Hurd was terrific at running back in the first scrimmage. He will be playing running back this season unless he grows to 6'7". The guy can run over linebackers is hard to bring down he will get plenty of carries this season.
If for some reason he grows to 6'7" then Tyndall could use and inside player on the basketball team.

6'4"-6'9" with the afro

He's not a tight end. At all. He's more likely to wind up wide or in the slot than at tight end

I agree that he is not a tight end. One guy that I would like to see at tight end is Jason Croom. Last I heard, he was. Up to 245 pounds and is athletic enough to play wide receiver. Could be a deadly weapon at TE.

Guy has been working as WR since hitting campus...

If allowed he could really benefit from a redshirt IMO. It would be the best thing in the long run to maximize his time here.

But some LBs/DEs will have to step up for that to happen.

It wouldn't be too hard to figure that by the time the Vols roll into Athens, Weatherd will be into the system enough to play some significant downs. We've already got killer speed at DE, but a rushing OLB on sure-fire passing situations could see him there earlier....as in the OU game. By SEC opening time, let's figure non-EE newbies Bates, the Berries, TKJ, Wharton, Scott (and there are a few more) will have some opinions reversed as to the Vols' chances of making a run at the SECe. 1st this year? Nah. Next year...............as some of you say: Prolly.:salute:

It's OK. Lebron (and Jarnell) has found a way to carry on with those lingering expectations. :p

Young guys I think are in the two deep on defense are Barnett and Bates. Hendricks seems to be there as well although he is not playing at the level of Barnett and Bates.
Hurd is gonna hurt some safeties this season when he gets in the secondary. He is a running back we will not see him playing anywhere else.

What about Latroy Lewis? Remember all the hype Dooley created on thus fine gem?
