He would’ve worn one to the ribs in his next at bat...

😉
Just kidding, I agree with TAF, cool story!!
He wouldn’t do that. He was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet.

As for the rest of the story, I think he was actually pitching from 2nd base when I faced him. Of course they had temporary bases setup at softball depth (? 60 ft between bases) for our exhibition game. As the tweet said they played with 4 players: Eddie (the King), pitched, a catcher behind the plate, a right-side fielder (I.e., 1st-base), and a left-side fielder. Eddie would have been in his late-60’s to early 70’s at that time. The right-side player was probably 50’s-60’s. The catcher and left-side fielder were both relatively young guys (30’s) who were both probably 6’2” to 6’3” and 220 to 230 lbs, all muscle and could run. The right-side guy basically hung around 1st-base the whole time. When one of our guys would hit a ball into the outfield, the 1st-baseman would tell us to either keep going all the way, or to stop at 1st. The left-side guy would chase the ball down, and then turn around and throw a frozen rope to home plate, getting our runner out usually with feet to spare. The two young guys could also hit the ball a mile; I think one hit one out of the stadium, no easy feat with a softball. He also hit a bullet at me playing 3rd-base at softball depth (I was way in on the grass). I made the catch; the reflexes were a lot better back then.
