Winter Olympics: Athletes advised to use burner phones in Beijing

Multiple security issues with the My2022 phone app (mandatory for all Olympians, coaches, and spectators) and China's habit of not respecting user privacy had led multiple countries to ask their participants to leave their own devices at home and use disposable devices and email accounts while in the country competing.

I have a coworker from China and she goes back every couple years to see family. She tried to work from there last time and security blocked all her access. If you connect to a network in that country just accept that all data is collected

But yet here in the ole US we move the All-Star Game from ATL over ginned up accusations over voter rights.

It's quite different actually
We don't send people to camps. But do you think we have any privacy here? Didn't an article come out that Canada was pulling data from just about everyone. Do you think it's different here? I don't.

Our government has decided there are better methods for population control. Zersetzung, cancel culture, whatever you want to call it. You just can't take folks out back and shoot them. You have to use more acceptable methods. Like vaccine requirements to leave your house.

Yes I believe there are ways to keep traffic private that don't exist in China

Of course, any cheap burner phone the athletes buy is almost certainly made in China too and will have all the usual CCP mandated back doors installed

I think that's the point. Create a temporary system that you can abandon when back home.
