On the game today...

Foster is better on sweeps than inside. Coker hits the hole better than Foster or Hardesty. Hardesty has more ability to run over guys but jukes too much. Also, UGA had fits trying to stop CU's running game.

I was really just hoping Foster would be strong enough to get a few yards even with zero help from the O-line. I don't picture Coker to really be a 3rd and one type back. I think Hardesty has the best potential for that scenario, but he doesn't seem to just crash forward like we need. Hopefully one of these guys can make it happen.

Coker doesn't seem to be because of his size, but his speed and willingness to hit the hole make him the best candidate. Foster also lost some weight in the offseason so he isn't quite as stout. A big difference between Coker and Hardesty is that Hardesty likes to juke around which stops his momentum while Coker will make a cut and use his momentum.

That's what I'm saying. Hardesty has potential. He breaks like three tackles every time he touches the ball. He's also strong and keeps his legs driving. If he learns to be more aggressive, he could be our best short yardage back. But as of now he's shown more potential than results.

He has to learn to hit the hole. No juking, just hit the hole. That is why, right now, Coker is probably the best option at short yardage.

Hardesty, and Foster are good power backs when they have a good line and full back but Coker is fine with being a speed back without a lead blocker. Since our line and fullback arent performing right now he may be the better option.

I don't think our FB will produce for the rest of the year. I'm pretty sure we are gonna be running alot more double tights than the I.

Just finished the DVR'd version (golf tourney this AM. . . .). My thoughts:

1. Memphis fans can shut up now. We spanked that. FINALLY.

2. Ainge looks fantastic. I know it was a second-rate defense, but he was on-the-money, composed, and came out with ridiculous numbers. Maybe he's more mature, maybe Cut is the Second Coming. . . .whatever it is, I like it. A lot.

3. Coker is fast (two weeks in a row, now).

4. Our punt return team is awful. Awful, awful, awful. If we get ourselves backed inside the 5 against SEC teams, we'll get killed. We don't catch the ball when we should, we do catch it when we shouldn't, and we don't block worth a lick (literally). We absolutely MUST address this issue.

5. Fulmer was chewing people up 41-0. I like that, a lot, too.

6. Nice job by the tight ends catching the football.

7. The '96 Tiger High runback was one of the worst calls of all time.

All right, boys. Let's go whoop some Dawg!

It was nice to see the Vols almost put the bagel on Memphis. It did seem like some scoring opportunities were missed in the first half. I seriously doubt that UGA's defense will wear down the second half the way the Tigers' did today. All-in-all a good outing but I cannot see it translating to SEC competition. Anyone else see it that way?
I'm hoping the coaching staff was using this game as a full speed scrimmage for the upcoming SEC schedule...

Our offensive line couldn't get into the endzone from within the one yard line on three straight tries. That's pretty disconcerting. Especially considering that we were playing Memphis. Most of our running yardage came from the backs running around the line. We don't seem to get much push, or at least not enough push to run up the middle very well. Our goal line offense is eventually going to be short passes from the shotgun if the O-line doesn't step it up with the run blocking.
That was rather discouraging... along with Ainge's INT that got called back because of the offsides penalty. I'm still not sure what he was looking at on that one. Also burned two timeouts in the first quarter to avoid delay of game penalties, that sucked...

But, all in all, good day. None of that crap blew the game, which is of course a good thing.

that's kind of how i felt too....can't nit pick a 41-7 game too much...but i thought the exact same thing.

and that running around the line...most of it was on the left side.

the only other thing that concerned me was how many 3rd down situations we got in to...granted we converted almost all of them, which is great...but you can't make a living off of getting in to 3rd downs 12-14 times a game(i forget how many we actually had) and keeping the ball like we did today. especially against the defenses we will be playing the rest of the year.

i really believe coker would have made it in at the goal line. the image of hardesty putting his head down and trying to smash it in there was ridiculous.

I think at this point, Ainge is just going to make one bonehead play per game. That's better than last years 3-4 bonehead plays per game. Thankfully, this one didn't count. He's had a great year so far. Hopefully it will continue, along with Meach.

I don't think so. You can't really blame Hardesty for the O-line laying down on the ground. Also, Coker is our speedy back. He's always been speedy. One of the big knocks on him is his toughness. He's improved in that area. However, last year Fulmer pretty much told him he wasn't tough enough to get serious consideration.

I tried... I woke up even earlier than that New Year's Day '05 to watch the Cotton Bowl.

That's funny. I usually go to sleep around 5 am on New Year's, wake up around 10 for Awful House, get home by 11 for pre-game ESPN banter and have a full belly by kickoff. In '05, I woke up and we were winning 21-0 against A&M and I felt disgusted. But I taped the game. That was also one of the few New Year's Eve evenings I didn't do anything. I sat at home, with the pleasure of knowing I wouldn't get arrested. I went to bed at 12:30......sober!!.....

It's a lot tougher for us guys that live in the Pacific Time Zone. The games start early out here.
