Once and For All: The Fulmer Debate Ends Here

Should Phillip Fulmer Have Been Fired?

You talking about Arkansas in '98?

Who do you dislike more, the guy who kicked you in the nutz once or the guy who held them clamped in a vise for 9 years twisting tighter each year (despite setting you up for a one nighter with his pretty sister 10 years ago).

.

I'm ok with miracles that help us win a game, but miracles that help us lose by less than we should have are not really noteworthy.

I understand not being ok with the direction things were going with Fulmer, but he did less damage to the program over the last ten years than Kiffin did in one year. Oh, and keep in mind that Kiffin's kick to the nutz might not be over yet. Let's wait to see what the NCAA has to say about that.

Unless we get NCAA sanctions there is no way that is true.

Our primary predicament is a lack of talent. Fulmer, if not most responsible, shares the blame for the talent being down. Where were all of his stud sophomores, juniors, and seniors last year?

Where are his stud juniors and seniors this year?

I forgot, he gets a pass because he won a NC in 1998.

Posted on TOS, I found this interesting. With all the new stadium improvements, large murals of former legendary Vols are posted around the stadium. These include, Gen. Neyland, Johnny Majors, Al Wilson, Peyton Mannning, Doug Atkins, and Reggie White......but not Phil Fulmer! Do you think Hamilton has anything to do with this????

Im not a fulmerite in any way, but I do find it rather odd that he's not included.University Of Tennessee announces stadium improvements, Gameday activities GoVolsXtra

Fulmer is only a legend in his own mind. Johnny Majors has a mural for his accomplishments as a player not as a coach.

I think David Cuttcliffe should get the Mural. We saw what Phil did when Cutt wasn't here to run the team for him. I'm surprised we won the NC game without Cutt. I guess after 12 games our boys knew what to do.

If MH had anything to do with it, doubtful though, give that man a series of high-fives. Fulmer isn't in the class of former players/coaches mentioned.

well, it should also be noted that around 20 or so players either left or were kicked off the team from 2008 to this year. There was something like 13 that left when Kiffin came in, and however many this year. Obviously not all of them were "studs," but it's at least worth pointing out if you are going to have the debate.

Which of those players would be contributing last year or this? Which of those players are doing anything significant anywhere of note?

I look forward to the list.

Thanks for some uncommon common sense and reality-based world view.

The jury is still out on whether Fulmer should still be the coach at UT or not. Hence, no mural yet. It's too soon.

Hardesty, Rogan, Berry, Walker, martin, williams, crompton(most of you think he was a stud last year) creer, morley, cooper, scott, mcclendon, reveiz. brown. plenty of solid juniors and seniors.
oh yeah mcneil

No problem. It's not as if we'd have to wrestle him away from someone should we desire his services again.

And no, acting as if the youngest two classes on campus are the source of our talent deficiency doesn't qualify as common sense.

Why do you play this game, when it's been done to death in the off-season? And I know you've seen the threads?

You and kpt say "deadweight" and these guys end up at Florida and other BCS schools, a lot of them as starters.

Oh, right, Tajh Boyd might not be third on the depth chart. Yeah, you're right DVD, because he's #2. And if what's-his-name and gone to baseball, he'd be starting.....

Name one starter. Thanks.

We had one recruit that caused Orgeron to laugh go to Florida. He's already been passed on the depth chart by younger players.

:eek:lol:Only to the Fulmerites like yourself.

Then you'd better hope Dooley makes the SECCG this year. Otherwise, you'll be dead wrong.

Fulmer had us in the SECCG every three years. Last one was 2007. You do the math.....

GSM.

My my how we soon forget the excitement and oh yeah...a National Championship that CPF just happened to be a part of. You damn right he should have something huge at Neyland Stadium. You guys kill me bashing CPF. Ok...your glad he's gone but the accomplishments that he had are not nothing to sneeze at. Coach Phillip Fulmer is and will ALWAYS be a major part of the University of Tennessee. Give him credit by recognizing him at the stadium. To the ones saying it 's too soon...then why do we have Phillip Fulmer day on the last game of the season? This was put in place right after he was fired.
