I think he actually had two... but one was more than enough. :)

Tommy Tutone-867-5309 or Jenny
Eddie Grant-Electric Avenue

I disagree on Jimi Hendrix as well. Yeah that was the only one on the top 40, but I would say most people can name quite a few of his songs. For instance; Purple Haze, All Along the Watchtower, Foxy Lady, and Spanish Castle Magic are constantly being played in set lists on classic rock stations. Where as the people above those are the only songs you ever hear from those people.

one hit wonders aren't inducted into the Rock n Roll HOF, they also don't have an album debut at #1 on the Billboard charts.

Ya, there seems to be some confusion in this thread as to what the phrase means.

You are absolutely right. There are some artists in the HOF that have ZERO hits. Album sales and chart success has nothing to do with the HOF. Seriously, go look at who has already been induced.

That #1 album was in the UK. Last time I checked, we are not in the UK.

The name of the thread is "One Hit Wonders that should have had more". He had one song that charted in the states but has an entire catalog of great songs. I can't think of a better candidate for this thread.

Also, just because songs become classics over time and are played 5 times a day on classic rock radio, doesn't retroactively make them a "hit".

As the thread starter I meant an artist who has one main song that the artist is known for or that receives or received significant radio play but who's other works are relatively unknown to the public.

IOW - Jimi Hendrix does not qualify.

I'll throw Sheriff into the mix... When I'm With You is one of the all-time classic power ballads.

Yes he is, do some research. One song on the top 40 is a one hit wonder. He's still a legend and one of the greatest guitar players ever but that is not what this thread is about.

What a way to derail a thread...when someone is revered as a legend and widely considered one of the greatest ever at his craft, kind of hard to group him with a one hit wonder.

Technically speaking yes..."All Along The Watchtower" was his only top 40 hit but he is far from a one hit wonder.

His catalog is timeless.

How about The Divinyls - I Touch Myself?

In Australia "I Touch Myself" was released as a CD single in December 1990 and debuted at number thirty-one later that month. After five weeks of being in the chart the song jumped to number-one knocking Vanilla Ice's debut single "Ice Ice Baby" off the top spot and stayed there for another week. It debuted on the UK Singles Chart at position sixty-nine and on its eighth week it peaked at number ten (its peak position in the UK) and spent a total of twelve weeks in the chart. When released in the United States, the song caused a minor controversy. However, it managed to reach the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number four.
