Randolph for sure...wish we had a qtb.. Ten has got to do something the qtb is the heart of a program. They better pick out the best freshman and do what they need to do to get him ready to play..

Thanks for this positive thread. I am sick of all the bashing. Numerous young guys have played and contributed. I wish the nega Vols would just shut up and come back in a couple of years.

A lot of people say next year will be worse then this year but I don't think it will be with all the freshmen playing. Its never as good as it should be an never as bad as its supposed to be

Cam Sutton is the best shutdown corner we've had since Eric Berry,IMO.

Thanks for the positive thread, been looking for one of these.

We really just need good QB play!

We need a lot more than just a good QB.

This team lacks playmakers in the skill positions. Nobody has really shown the ability to break open big plays against SEC caliber opponents.

Outside of North, Howard and maybe Neal, there haven't been many that have even shown potential. Guys like Brendan Downs, Smith and Summerhill will likely never be elite enough talents for us to be where we want to be.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but the talent on our roster just isn't good enough. It's going to take 3-5 years to flush the system and re-fill it with the right type of players.

I wish we had a QB to utilize North's talents

Do you realize that North has now played 5 games at Wide Receiver...EVER? He was a QB/RB in high school.

There is no way to expect a Freshmen to come in and excel in the SEC at that position immediately if you've never played the position before. WR is one of the most technical positions there is to learn. You have to remember stems, breaks. You have to know all of the coverages as much as the QB. He will come along in time and he is a great physical talent, but we have to be realistic and patient with his progress.

Why would you even mention a walk-on RB ( Summerhill)?
While I agree we need more playmakers ( and CBJ has several committed in this 2014 class), I think you're being overly pessimistic saying 3-5 years and " flushing" the system.

What has really surprised me is the absence of Paul Harris. I thought for sure he would get more action this year. I'm not passing judgment though, not every freshman can have an immediate impact. But I love his frame, and think once it all clicks he can be a solid WR.

North would be putting up good numbers this year if Worleygig could get the ball to him. He's even bailed Worley out a few times.

He definitely passes the eyeball test.

It blows my mind just how much we lack experience at receiver. I think it gets glossed over, but this has to be the least experienced group of receivers we've ever had.

Sutton for sure, he doesn't play like a freshman.

Actually, he still does play like a freshman. He is making some misreads like one, and missing some coverages too. However, he has one helluva heart out there. Giving his all.

If only some of the upperclassmen didn't play like freshmen...

North played QB in high school? Hmmmm. Anyone else thinking what I am thinking?

Agree with most above posts. Thought Croom looked good, apparently that slant is the one route where we're money. Also, not freshmen, but Lane and Neal had some great runs today.

Neal really stepped up today. Less dancing around, and more running through the play. The few times he did change direction, he made a single cut to daylight. Think Gillespie is getting him through to him.

It almost seemed like he ran harder after Lane broke the big run. :)

Disagree. If we have a QB who can put the ball where it's supposed to be then defenses have to give the offense at least a LITTLE respect. They don't respect our QB play so we are almost one dimensional. That makes it damn difficult for every other player on the team. Even the defense suffers.

Freak, I feel honored that you've quoted me so often. It's like a celeb retweeting you, VolNation style.

You're right about receiver depth though. Wish Arnett would have stayed. That would have helped some. Having Lauderdale next year should help. Doubt that Jackson will be a part of this class.

However am very pleased with Josh Smith and Pigs production so far. North will dramatically improve next year. I don't think Butch will have many misses in recruiting. He seems to be able to evaluate talent very well.

My quotes are hardly comparable to a celebrity retweet, but thanks.

I enjoy your posts. You always seem to put a lot of thought into them and I appreciate it. :hi:
