2004: Undefeated SEC West team from Alabama shut out of the National Championship game in favor of a Pac-10, Big 12 South matchup.

What could've been in 2005: Undefeated SEC West team from Alabama shut out of the National Championship game in favor of a Pac-10, Big 12 South matchup.

There would've been a second civil war, but this time, East vs. West, not North vs. South. My dream might've come to fruition at last: The implementation of a playoff due to the proof that the BCS and ranking system is the biggest, stupidest travesty ever to plague a sport in the history of upright-walking humankind.

(Naturally, this assumes that USC and Texas would win out, and that Bama would've won out and won the SEC had they beaten LSU.)

Bama was bound to lose a game down the stretch. LSU/Auburn/Georgia is a tough end of the year.

Nah, it's worth it. Besides, the BcS will get another monkywrench in a year or two. BTW congrats on LSUs big W today!

Yeah, but....

What if, man. What if. The BCS has narrowly avoided it's inexorable, undeniable, ultimate doom for one more year. It will fall someday.

Aw c'mon. I was pulling for my tigers, don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't have been as pissed if we had lost as I was when you guys beat us, because it would've dealt the BCS a potential blow from which it might never have recovered (assuming Bama won out).

God I hope not. If we don't find an offense between now and then though, you'll slaughter us I'm afraid.

It's an SEC game, pal. Anything can happen. I think you guys'll get it together by next season. Just a down season this year for you guys, I think.

I cant count the times in the last 10 years I've heard folks critisize the BCS. Who are the folks that get to decide that bowls are in, playoffs out????If such a large majority of people want playoffs as opposed to bowls why isn't that the case? Anyone know WHO these individuals are?

LOL They're The Money. We're NOT The Money, so we don't get an opinion.

I don't think even a really heinously screwed finish (or even a couple) will make them change it. They'll have to think of a way for a playoff to make serious bucks before they'll abandon the bowls.

University presidents, league officials, conference higher-ups, just generall folks in power.

BCS = huge money and huge money is not to be tampered with. It would take nothing short of an outright nation-wide boycott of all Division IA college football attendance and viewership to rid ourselves of the BCS.

The thing is though . . . the BCS serves the only purpose that it was designed for; to ensure that at the end of the season #1 will always play #2.

Ah, the innocence of youth.

It's a money game, baby. That's been its real purpose all along.

Of course it is. My point was that people bash the BCS, but it is working exactly the way Roy Kramer wanted when he invented it.

It is a sad state of affairs when we do not have a playoff championship in the primary college sport in Division I.

Gosh, we're cynical.

Sorry I misunderstood, boss. Between GA & AL's losing and the Vols' pulling it out, I'm verklempt.

A lot of people down here wish they had won, also. But Bama's OL sucked so bad, that everyone has to admit that the better team won the game. How can any team expect to win against a determined defense when your receivers drop every ball they touch?

To win, you must bring your A game and stick to it.
The team that wants to win will win.
The team that thinks they can't lose will lose.

I'm glad they didn't win. They are not nearly as good as Texas and USC, and dont deserve to take away their glory at this point. I even think Norte Dame is better than they are right now.

What a difference #4 Tyrone Prothro made???!!! With him, they were NC calibur. Now that he's out, they are just average. Not to take away from their team, but sometimes one player makes all the difference.
