One reason I wish Bama had won.

Bama is probably a top ten team, but IMO they don't crack the top five even with Prothro. Tennessee looked every bit as gifted as Bama.

Okay... what if there is no undefeated team? Then there would be utter chaos. This is the great thing about high school football... especially here in IL. There's usually about 2 undefeated teams in each of the 8 divisions here. Sometimes there are more, sometimes there are none. A team can make it to the playoffs with a 5-4 record. You are guarenteed in with 6 wins. So, last week was round 2 of the playoffs. My two former schools played eachother. Beloved Sherrard was 10-0 and looking to crush Alwood (ROWVA) COOP at 7-3. A&R was annihilated in each of those three losses. But a cinderella story in the making. Sherrard was up 18-14 with 1:12 left in the game. A&R needed a TD. Well, to keep a long story short, the #8 seed upset the #3 seed 20-18 and went on to get blown out (yet again) this week by the #1 seed Bereu Valley. Playoffs are exciting, eh?

^^That post was probably completely useless, but I was trying to express how much more exciting playoffs are rather than the BCS. Anything can happen. Just have sponsors sponsor the game, instead of a bid. If you make it to that particular round, then you get the money you would get. A win would get you the extra w/e they get for a BCS bowl win. And it would give every team a shot at a fair NC.

Alabama has a great defense... but that's about it. Their offensive line is pretty shotty... LSU and UT got to Croyle just about every down.

Their special teams aren't much better than UT's either, and we know how bad that is...

A lot is made about Prothro's absence, which there should be, he was a gifted player... but Croyle has over or under thrown countless wide open receivers downfield since Prothro has been out. The difference in the UT game was he finally hit one for a big play near the end to set up the field goal.

I don't see them beating Auburn, either.

What could've been in 2005:  Undefeated SEC West team from Alabama shut out of the National Championship game in favor of a Pac-10, Big 12 South matchup.

There would've been a second civil war, but this time, East vs. West, not North vs. South.  My dream might've come to fruition at last:  The implementation of a playoff due to the proof that the BCS and ranking system is the biggest, stupidest travesty ever to plague a sport in the history of upright-walking humankind.

(Naturally, this assumes that USC and Texas would win out, and that Bama would've won out and won the SEC had they beaten LSU.)

So you're agreeing with Tuberville, CC?

I think he was exactly right about the whole shebang. There's no way every voter can see every game. Many of them have to end up voting for whichever team ESPN/ABC/whoever says is hot for that very reason. I'll never ever forgive them for Charles Woodson. Never.

USC has it made. They own their conference. So once they're preseason ranked number 1 they sit back and cruise through the conference and never have to worry about leaving the top 2. Now with Weis at ND things could change starting with next year. Texas may have one more year of conference ownership before others come back. I don't see nebraska and Oklahoma laying down for long.

But if you're in the preseason top five and have a good schedule and have a weak conference, then you have it made. In the SEC it's only going to get worse for trying to remain undefeated.
