If I were the UT recruiting coordinator, I would, in an effort to keep talent in-state, add a star to any instate recruit (or any kid out of state who grew up being a Vol fan like Wes Brown). In other words a James Stone becomes a 5* instead of a 4* and J. Smith becomes a 6*.

since CLK and CEO probably couldn't care less about how many stars scout and rivals give a player, you could give them 10 stars and it might not matter

they dont have to skip james stone even if they go and get green and cullen and another ,he also plays dt in high school if he isnt tutle slow he has the size to clog things up in the middle of the defense and maby we wouldnt get hammerd by qb draws and the wildcat package ,when haynesworth and henderson started in the middle of the line no one dare run the ball guys like that and e berrys in the s or cb spot and some big strong ends rush 4 and get 50 plus sacks and an occasional blitz, kids from tennessee are going every where this year lsu, bama, kentucky and others also in basketball conneticut and flordia signed guys from tennessee.

The Vols tried the whole putting a fence around the state and winning with TN kids in the '70s under Battle and it was an unmitigated disaster that took about 6 years and a national championship winning coach to fix. The Vols have to keep recruiting nationally and giving preferential treatment to in-state kids is not going to ingratiate the staff to out-of-state high school coaches.

Well first you have to have the right coaches. Now we do. With the Fulmer era it got bad, Kids in state didnt want to play for him. And the ones that did Fulmer didnt want. (Cobb) at Ky. The Miller kid at SC Byrnes school said Tenn has it going in right direction. Was too layed back with Fulmer.

Taking kids just because they're instate when you can get a better player from somewhere else is terrible.

And where does all this stuff about Fulmer not wanting Cobb come from? For rela

Exactly. We are paying them so much money because they are better judges of talent than the scouting services people.

and wind up with more like the twin brothers....no thanks
(I love their effort and heart of a Vol, but if you start taking kids JUST becaiuse they are from TN, this is what you will get)

Glad we have ed orgeron to handle this responsibility instead of any of us. What he and the rest of the coaching staff have done recruiting for UT has been nothing short of miraculous considering where we were when they came in.

My New Year's resolution: Pray every day for UT to fill out the entire recruiting class this year and next with SEC quality prospects and netting us a Top 5 recruiting class, if not the #1.

#1 would give us plenty of additional positive exposure in the media and keep hammering UT in the minds of all the future prospects out there.

I was a student at UT when Bill Battle was coach. He couldn't recruit or coach. He even lost many of the best in state players to teams like Bama.

I do think if you give some preferemce to instate players, you don't lose the Patrick Willises and the Chad Penningtons.

Whom had you better have on your team a 3* Randal Cobb or a 4* Nu'Jeese Richardson?

You lose Chad Pennington because there is a guy named Peyton Manning playing on your team

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I think it is a gross miscalculation of the number of good players that are produced in the State of Tennessee, granted some of them play for less than powerhouse schools.

The state of Alabama has a population of 4 million and 85% of the University of Alabama players come from instate (plus they compete with Auburn). The state of Tennessee has a population of 6 million and UT recruits 85% of it's players out of state. And it is really the only significant major school, football wise, in the state.

I can't imagine a #1 class at this point based on commits and schollys left?
I am looking to see a miracle finish to get us in the top 5. There's your momentum and then we add a couple more wins next year............and the train keeps rollin!!!

My nephew went to Webb at that time and the word I got was that our coaches didn't offer. BTW, Matt Barkley at USC didn't prevent Scoggins from committing to them.

Hindsight's 20/20. Same as me asking you if you'd rather have 5* Chris Donald or 4* Rolando McClain.
