One thing that always bothered me about Dooley

I don't believe stretching is going to do anything for your ACL. It's is a ligament, not a muscle. Not sure about your achilles.

so let me get this straight...the one thing you have always had a problem with considering dooley is that the players don't stretch? Interesting...for me it has always been that the guy can't win.

Well, in 2010, before the season even started, he made that comment. That's why I said ALWAYS.

If the muscle isn't strong enough, (or I've even heard stretched enough, that's why I was asking) the it can put those ligaments in awkward positions. That's just always what I heard. After my playing days were over, I was told by physical therapists to always make sure I stretched before playing pickup or anything.

I'm not blaming Dooley, I'm saying it always bothered me and I was asking for input from someone that knows more about the subject than myself.

I don't give a damn if he made them do yoga. What bothers me about Dooley is that he should never EVER have been hired.

One of the new theories of stretching is that it puts too much stress on the ligaments, tendons, & muscles. I've been told to think of a cold rubber band when you stretch it. I don't necessarily agree to it, but the theory is out there.

In college my tennis class instructor/coach subscribed to this theory; he had us run a few laps around the tennis courts before we warmed up, and we only really stretched after class. Ever since then I've pretty much subscribed to this theory.

Granted I'm no big time athlete, but I run 4-5 times a week and I play flag football and I've never had any problems with pulled muscles or anything like that. I do always stretch after I'm done.

His first year he said that he doesn't make his players stretch. Am I reading too much into that? Because he had 2 Achilles tears the first year and he's had a ton of ACLs and muscle tears. Maybe I'm just looking too much into it, but I was always bothered by that. Anyone in sports medicine that can shed some light?

Really, Stretch? Out of all the indicators that elude to Dooley being a certified idiot and you single out this stretching thing. Well whatever does it for you. But yes he is a gifted orator. Lots of mouth action. Probably good at many thing with his mouth. It doesn't translate to coaching football

google dynamic warmup

there you go.

Thanks for the insight. Makes sense. I just never understood how we had so many preseason injuries. It started with the Achilles tears, but then you ALWAYS seemed to have a ton of guys with hip injuries, or hamstring injuries, or ACLs in strange situations.

I'm blaming him for giving me this crud..

No. That would be failing to provide your immune system with proper nutrition. Fruits and veggies. (Fresh or at least frozen). I used to think getting the crud was normal------it aint. Green source vitamins are good too. Don't ask me why the hell I printed this-----No idea.

Why do you not also blame Him for The storm on the east coast.

I think he said in the first year it was optional. He got questioned about it after the back-to-back Achilles tears. But Randolph's ACL and Curts ACL seem like they should have never happened.

Maybe I'm wrong buuuuuuuut Curt had been playing the whole game. My logic would be, wouldn't it have happened very early in the game if it was going to happen? I mean playing 3 or 4 qtrs then you have a torn ACL???.....I dunno know. I feel like your "warmed up" by then.

Curt didn't tear his ACL because he wasn't warmed up. He tore it because when he jumped over a guy, he landed awkwardly and it just tore. Trust me on this, it doesn't matter how much you warm up, one wrong step and it's gone.

On my college tennis team, we use "dynamic warmups" which are basically running, jumping, etc. It gets you warmed up faster and gets the heart rate going before you even play. We do stretching afterwards which feels much better than doing them before practice

When Dooley was in college, he never stretched...of course, he didn't play much either.
