Dear Coach Dooley:

Today (Sunday) or Monday, you will likely be releived from your position as Head Coach of the University of Tennessee football program. This action reflects the University's need to bring a new direction to our historic and proud athletic program, and is not a reflection of your character or any malfeasance on your part. Quite the contrary.

You inherited a program already challenged by successive coaching turnover and nearly depleted of the level and depth of talent normally inherent in the Vols program. While your predecessor brought repeated infractions and national shame to our school, you brought integrity and honesty. While your predecessor attracted shallow, self-absorbed and miscreant recruits, you attracted stable players with an emphasis on the importance of team. You have truly succeeded in building our team's talent base under very challenging circumstances.

Most importantly, you brought stability to the University of Tennessee football program. For that, we thank you.

True fans of collegiate sports recognize that winning isn't everything, but it is required to remain a coach in the SEC.

For our young men on the football team, though, our team is also about building character, developing a strong work ethic, working as a team towards a shared goal and sense of purpose. When their college careers are over, most Tennessee Vol players will never play on Sundays. Their careers will be over. But, they will carry with them for the rest of their lives all the friendships, lessons learned and, hopefully, many fond memories of playing in front of the thousands of cheering Volunteer fans in Neyland Stadium, and take pride in representing one of the finest universities in this country.

While your career at Tennessee is reaching its end, I encourage you to be mindful of your accomplishments, and remain above the fray. True fans of Tennessee football and the University know that you put your blood, sweat and tears into your job. While your record may not reflect your efforts, you are no doubt leaving our program in a better place than where you found it. For that, we are grateful.

I sincerely thank you, and wish you the very best in all your future endeavors.

He said we would have to make him leave and that is a VOL. Wish we had him a year earlier I believe it would have helped. (Look back at what kiff said about '10 players and how much hurt we would have). Much love to ALL in orange.

Really? I think a letter telling him to man up and resign is more fitting. He's about to pull the heist of the century when he takes $5mil from UT

Relieved . Don't write an essay when your first sentence has a word spelled incorrectly, you lose all credibility.

I wish people would stop acting like this guy did us a favor when he came here. This was a win for him. He was going to make major $$$, he was coming up from La Tech, and he would finally be coaching in the SEC. That's a complete upgrade to what he was doing previously.

So stop acting like we owe him anything or that he came to UT out of the goodness of his heart. If that were the case, his agent would've have negotiated this ridiculous buyout. It's a business. He wanted to advance his career. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but for goodness sake, he doesn't need some letter written to him thanking him for taking this job. It was an opportunity of a lifetime for him.

How about writing a thank you letter to Mike Hamilton for giving a WAC coach with a losing record a $5 million buyout.

Also, we should thank Coach Dooley for being man enough to show up at every practice and game even after making mistakes that high school coaches don't make.

Coach Dooley,
You never brought In stability as anyone can tell with Your staff's turn over rate. Your recruiting has been below average in the SEC other than those stud Juniors you saved thanks to Lane Kiffy early recruitment of them and 2 Juco's you signed this season . you are 0-7 in the last 7 SEC games You have treated former players terrible. You have made jokes when the fans would suffer at poor coaching.Take your Money and Run.

I think the bail outs and obama care are the heist you are thinking of.He should get that money. He came into a situation that was a set up for failure to begin with. Most people complaining about the money would not walk away from it either.I wish I knew the truth about who hired Sal and other things during his stay here.I guess that could sway my opinion one way or the other. Never seen a coach who had so many games go against him with out having any luck. But dont get me wrong it unfortunately is time for him to leave knoxville.

How about this?

Open letter to any new UT Head Coaching prospects
If your last name isn't Saban or Gruden this fanbase will never accept you as worthy of their lofty expectations.
Your every decision will be analysed and critizied and ridiculed by possibly the most impatient, ignorant, vicious and hate filled fanbase in America.
They have not one speck of class or human empathy as demonstrated by how their last HC was treated.
I would think long and hard before considering a job offering at this University, the odds of success are long indeed.

Some people just have no class OBVOL.

Is being an ass to our former players classy? Is throwing the current players under the bus being classy? Is throwing the asst coaches under the bus being classy?

He's a fraud and a used car salesman. All of you who think otherwise are foolish.

I would about guarantee that you have never put the hours into your job (if you have one) that Dooley has put in here. He has done his best , he just doesn't have it.

The $5 mil is on UT for agreeing to it. There is not the first person on this board that would walk away from money owed to them.

Luck has nothing to do with DD making terrible coaching decisions.

Dooley is a well educated con man. The fools lap up his whimsical "sayins" like a thirsty hound laps up water. They'll never blame him. As PT Barnum said "there's a sucker born every minute".

He's talking about some fans acting like Dooley is a Saint and he did us a favor for taking the job. He's a damned fraud. I've been waiting for his con artist ass to get the boot. The best part is watching so many of his boot lickers eat crow.

Dear Dooley,

Have fun with that 5 million.

Also, don't worry about your horrible 3-year tenure as Tennessee coach. Everyone will forget you exist next year.

Maybe re-consider law?

With love,
