Observations from the 1st row of today's scrimmage:

*JJJ looked fine but didn't play.

*Multiple walk-ons played but Jefferson did not step foot on the court. He was healthy. That is a evidence to support what has been said.

*Sitting behind the Grey bench and there are some obvious reasons that Uros gets more minutes than his talent would indicate. (That is not saying he has no talent) But he is so vocal with his teammates, instructing, encouraging.

*The question of whether Key's production can translate is no longer a question for me. His skill-set will translate. And he is uber-competitive and plays with very high IQ.

*ON is definitely healthy and looks comfortable again.

*Phillips plays very calm and looks like he is intentional about letting the game come to him. When he decided to be assertive for about a 5 minute stretch he looked phenomenal. Legit height and length.

*Edwards has good size and length for the position. Solid athlete. Long ways to go as a scorer/shooter.

*Awaka is exactly what we thought he was. Tremendous rebounder. Relentless effort and great instincts about where the ball is going. Strong but not very long and not explosive type of athlete. Defensively he was the one struggling to defend Uros. Uros did great job of using his size and length advantage and Awake didn't have enough exclusiveness to counteract.

Uros biggest opportunity would be to gather himself when he received the ball on the post without dribbling. He’s got a sweet hook shot but he appears to have to dribble to start his hook shot.

ON loped healed and has a smooth jump shot from 15’ in.

Mashack didn’t show much new on offense.

Aidoo looked a little stronger and his jumper looked smooth also.

Key is going to be a player for us.

This is a deep team with lots of 8+ quality options.

I was there. He was consistently hitting a baby hook shot. If he can keep doing that, it's indefensible.
If he could hit the hook without having to dribble it would be indefensible. IIRC, every time he would receive the pass on the block then dribble to start his hook shot. Unless the offense is set to clear everyone out to allow him to work 1 on 1 then he’s in danger of a help defender swiping at the ball.

That's his biggest problem. The amount of time it takes him to get the shot off. Part of it is him trying to take a dribble to get in position. With that shot and his size his best study would be hours of film on Kevin McHale. The difference with McHale was lift on the ball, good feet and feel for the defenders around him.

I got to check this scrimmage out Saturday, the biggest thing I was impressed with was Uros. He had some very solid moves around the rim that I didn't know he had in him. We'll see, but he was impressive on that day.
