Play calling was very vanilla, so it made defense look really good at times and offense bad at times. Hard to gauge. QBs not impressive and will be pushed this fall. However, was impressed with Alden Hill and Cory Vereen. Both will contribute in a big way this year IMO.

We'll be alright. Improved on defense. But we have got to have a playmaker step up on offense. No Bray, Hunter or Patterson this year. Blanc made the best play of the day. Gotta have a RB or a WR step up.

Gonna be some growing pains.

I think once we get Croom, Harris, and North all out there we will be fine....I just hope all our WRs stay healthy

This was a plain vanilla day. Did they line up correctly? Did the D stay in their gaps or zones. Could the WR's get off the line reasonably well and were the routes correct? The 1st team O-line was a foregone conclusion, but how did the back-ups do? Etc., etc.

QB - Worley managed the game well. Not much in the way of chemistry with the WR's yet. But Carter and Downs were out and they will catch a lot of balls this fall. Peterman is thinking too much. Hasn't learned to read the D very well yet. Will pull it down and run zone read better though.

RB - If the injury bug stays away we are good with Neal and Hill. After that all I can say is I hope Lane makes it back. Hill is going to be good.

O-line: Good to go.

D-line: Good to go. Vereen - wow! Get Mo and Hood back to add to it. Good work by Walls, Smith, Lewis, Big Mac, etc.

LB: First team will be good with Maggitt back. Sapp was impressive. AJ always is.

Secondary: Improved, especially with Randolph, McNeil and Moore on the back end. Randolph has recovered very well and looked good back there.

Coleman is hot and cold, but much improved. Need R-Jones ready in the fall.

Keys - Kicking game, depth and experience. May need some immediate help at WR and a few other spots.

No surprises really. The offensive line is obviously the strength of this team going into this year. Hill seems to really know how to follow a great line.

I know everyone is expecting a wide open offense, but it doesn't get much better than this offensive line. Call me old fashioned, but it will help if our opponents at least have to defend against the running game.

I saw very little 'touch' on the balls thrown by the QB's. Worley has been here long enough to look better IMO

I think the QB battle is wide open. It's going to be even better when Dobbs and Ferguson and High get here. I know that Croom and Carter were out, and North isn't here yet. BUT..I still think that it's going to be a good competition.

Im excited about hill and can't wait to see him run someone over. Don't be surprised if one of the freshmen take over the starting qb spot.

In regards to the actual fan experience, it felt exactly like everything Coach Jones has been preaching. It felt like a big orange cookout or something; like one Tennessee family. Very laid back, festive environment. I love Tennessee. Walking around on the field was so so cool. Meeting former and current vols who were as nice and down to earth as can be was amazing.

Offensively I'm a little concerned about our depth. There's potential for a 2011 offensive season if we have any key injuries at wideout/QB.

Hill impressed. I like his running style. The D didnt look completely lost like last year. They re gonna need to be solid.

Off the cuff, our O is gonna struggle throwing it vertically. Hopefully we can run it and screen it well.

1) I realize that we had several receivers out, but I didn't notice anything approaching a passing game. Both qb's overthrew , or in some cases, threw behind receivers. Many times they had to throw it away. Peterman seemed to get more at ease after being bad early. Worley looked worse than last year, and I have been in the Worley camp.

2) I saw nothing out of Devrin Young or Pig Howard as receivers, or on a couple of stuffed reverses. The receivers seemed to not create any space, and the offensive line seemed to get pushed back in the pocket, so there was no room for the qb to step up, and make a throw.

3) Most passes were completed to backs as dump offs.

4) Alden Hill looked like our best back, always took it to the defender.

5) I watched the punters closely every time they went out and practiced. The best punter on this one day was Darr, but Palardy did fine also. Apparently Darr has been working on dropping the ball a little higher. Last year he hit the ball when it was close to the ground, and he couldn't get the nose of the ball up and flying well. At least on this day, he hit several perfect nose up spirals about 42-50 yards from the line of scrimmage. He even hit a couple with too much nose up that didn't travel as far, but he may have been practicing kicking toward the goal line. A third punter, named Ault needs to give it up.

6) I also watched the place kickers a lot. The best place kicker on this one day was Bullock. He never did get to kick one in a game type situation, but he had the highest, straightest, longest kicks of all in his practice kicks. Palardy had one pull hook, but made a nice 52 yarder against a slight breeze at the end of the half. He bounced it off the crossbar. It would have been short from 52 yards and 2 inches. Brodus looked good with a little higher flight than Palardy, and less sidespin(the ball spins straight up , as does Bullock's, not tilted like Palardy does too often). I would say that Bullock has 5-6 yards more range than Palardy, and maybe a couple more over Brodus. A 4th kicker named Toole needs to give it up.

Both the offense and defense seemed to know what was going on. Always lined up right...not scrambling around like last year. Very impressive considering the fast pace the O was setting.
