Highly rated kid but why are we taking so many edge guys ? I know edge are game changers but we have so many holes elsewhere to fill, no ? thoughts ?

I agree completely. Would like to see a better mix of middle linebackers and defensive tackles. More offensive lineman too! It appears that there is just an abundance of capable(not gsme breaking) wide receivers and defensive end/outside linebackers in high school every year. The big uglies play a more premium position.

We could do worse and did worse for a number of years. Some of theses edge players can grow and play other positions or lose some weight and be really good LBs. We can use a lot of help at LB.

My guess is that it’s based off their athleticism and frame. They’re usually athletic enough to learn and play one of the LB spots and they generally have frames that might allow them to bulk up and play inside too. Just my opinion

One reason is that a great pass rush makes your overall defense so much better. Make the opposing QB feel uncomfortable and your DBs have an easier time. With multiple high skilled edge guys you can rotate them and the pass rush can be maintained through out the game. I am no expert but that maybe the reasoning for the focus on recruiting that position.

There is also still the possibly of the James Pearce rumors of him contemplating transferring are true. Also, if you were hoping for a portal EDGE guy, but don't like the available options, why pass on a late high school steal that contacts you? Final possibly is that this kid wants to play TE. He looks good in his highlights at the position.
