I have never understood some of you all that want to play the hardest schedule in the country. Why do you care if we play out of conference cupcakes? We would still have a good sos with those cupcakes and it would help make a bowl every year, which everyone knows we need the revenue from. If it was up to some of the posters our schedule would be this..

Oregon
Notre Dame
Florida
LSU
Georgia
Alabama
South Carolina
Alabama (again)
Florida State
Vandy
Kentucky
Texas A & M

Lets say we go 3-9 with schedule

Now let's say we play this schedule

Cupcake
Cupcake
Florida
Cupcake
UGA
BAMA
Ole Miss
SC
Cupcake
Mizzou
Kentucky
Vandy

This schedle we go 9-3 nationally ranked, playing a good bowl, Revenue increases. No one cares we played those cupcakes in the BCS, they combat with we play in the SEC.

So can someone tell me the benefit of playing the hardest schedule possible like some want?

Can we buy out of this game? This schedule is very hard for a new coach (even Gruden). We are going to get a new coach and we bought out the UNC game a couple of years ago. We really don't need to go to Eugene next year especially after the UF butt whooping we are going to take.

Nah, let's do this!!!

Gruden signature win.

Do not be the school that becomes a coward by backing out of games. For the love of all that is sacred in college football and your tradition, do not run from a game to "save face".

Because we are Tennessee and have a standard of taking on anyone and everyone.

Buying out Oregon would be a futile gesture and cost $$. When we played them in Knoxville in 2010, we were tied at halftime. Then came a 2nd half collapse that we soon learned would be the trademark of the Dooley era. As another poster mentioned, we'll learn a lot more about the 2013 Vols by playing Oregon than by playing some Cupcake U.

Play the game.

Something tells me Stanford does not have the talent this UT team does. Insert a quality coach and let's go play some duck hunt.

Do you prefer winged or wingless?

Maybe we'll get Stanford's coach.

David Shaw would be a tremendous choice as the next HC at Tennessee. He's 20-4, was with Harbaugh at San Diego and his OC at Standford, owns Lane Kiffin and is 1-1 against Oregon. However, he may be at his dream job (at the college level). He went to Stanford (coached by Bill Walsh and Dennis Green) and his dad was once Stanford's DC (and a long time NFL assistant for several teams). That said, he's definitely worth a serious inquiry. Coaching in the SEC and higher pay might be attractive to him. He was an offensive assistant at Baltimore (QB, WR) during much of Jamal Lewis' time with the Ravens. Maybe Jamal will help if we are interested. Lewis/Hart need to make the call.

Clearly you havent seen our schedule if you think its hard.

Aug. 31 Austin Peay Knoxville
Sept. 7 Western Kentucky Knoxville
Sept. 14 at Oregon Eugene, Ore.
Sept. 21 at Florida * Gainesville, Fla.
Sept. 28 South Alabama Knoxville
Oct. 5 Georgia * Knoxville
Oct. 12 Open Date
Oct. 19 South Carolina * Knoxville
Oct. 26 at Alabama * Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Nov. 2 at Missouri * Columbia, Mo.
Nov. 9 Auburn * Knoxville
Nov. 16 Open Date
Nov. 23 Vanderbilt * Knoxville
Nov. 30 at Kentucky * Lexington, Ky.

7 games won minimum. 4 "cupcakes" assuming the 16th is homecoming which means another cupcake. 3 SEC wins min (that includes dropping either Auburn or Mizz). Not a hard schedule at all.

I would be all for Hart deciding we do away with the "cupcake" games. Stop playing the Georgia States and the Akrons and schedule teams with a heartbeat. If your going to invest in a coach, expect him to put a quality product on the field. We should play more home & homes with the NC States and North Carolinas and keep the payout money to the scrubs in house. If Hart wants to send a message that Tennessee is back in the SEC, stop playing the scrubs. Let the other guys in the conference beat up on them. JMO

If you play four cupcakes, you pay out 4mil or more to those schools. You play home and aways against big conference teams you dont pay out .

you think this is why Gruden was watching Oregon's offense? because he has to see what he is coaching against next year?
