Oregon Ready Or Not......

I'm hoping for a great game in Knoxville tonight. I'm also interested to see how well we travel, Oregon's always shown up in large numbers for big road games and I know at least a dozen of my fellow very recent UO alums who are in Knoxville right now, getting ready to experience SEC Football (and keep up Oregon's winning/Tennessee's losing streak in PAC-10/SEC match ups, ;) )

I was supposed to be at Fort Knox for the game but the Army pushed my ship date back so I will be watching from a viewing party in Portland with some fellow Quacker Backers. Too bad, I've always really wanted to see an SEC game. PARTICULARLY one where my Ducks are on the field...

Both UCLA and Cal traveled very well. I'm sure Oregon will represent as well. These Pac 10 home-and-homes are really cool for the fans.

I'm sick of schools scheduling FCS powderpuff games. Oregon is coming off playing what, for all intents and purposes, appeared to be a New Mexico High School team and after this will be taking on the all mighty Portland State Vikings...

Boise State (as painful as it was) was great last year. So was the home games against Utah and Purdue. The Michigan home-and-home series was a ton of fun also. I can't wait to see UT come back to Autzen in a few years and also the UO/LSU game next year in Cowboys Stadium.

I'm glad UT and Oregon both had the balls to schedule the series. A LOT of big name teams have been copping out on their non-conference schedules. So far, Oregon hasn't been one of them. Neither has UT as far as I know (Cal and UCLA are good examples)

Let's hope it stays this way.

Tennessee has always scheduled the likes of Notre Dame (when they were good, and when they were only mediocre), UCLA (ditto), Miami, etc.

We have Cincinnati next year, and Oklahoma and Nebraska coming up. Don't believe the UNC crap as it was told by the national media, Tennessee wanted to move the game so as to be able to have another home game next year for revenue purposes and to balance out the schedule (already playing Cincinnati), and UNC wouldn't budge. So we just bought them out and went on our way. They wouldn't have been the fifth toughest team we would have played next year (Florida, Bama, LSU, Georgia, Cincinnati, arguably others).

I'd like to see Tennessee start scheduling Georgia Tech once or twice a decade. They're an old former rival, whose legendary coach played his ball at Tennessee.

Our scheduling has been decent. This year, with the exception of today, has been the worst but it appears to be a one year aberration.

I'd really like to see more Pac-10/SEC games. Oregon is doing it's part. Starting this year we have 3 straight seasons with SEC opponents.

It takes balls to sign a home and home with Boise State. I respected Oregon for doing that and giving those guys the opportunity.

It also takes balls to play LSU in Texas. That's a road game, fyi. You guys are just lucky they have a shaved chimp for a coach. I'd say due to that, you have a great chance.

I'd love to see an SEC team schedule a home and home with Boise State. Georgia whipped 'em a few years back in Athens, true, but that wasn't the same BSU squad that exists now.

And frankly, while I respect the BSU program (We're 0-2 after all) I think I am everybody on this board would agree that they wouldn't be nearly as successful as they are now if they played week-in and week-out in a Big 6 conference.

I'm thrilled to say I am probably going to be there for that one. One of my best friends from UO just enrolled in LSU for Law School and we're going to have a little Duck reunion in Texas.

And I have no doubt about that being a road game. Though I think Oregon might surprise some people with how well we travel... Still, LSU will probably have us beat atmosphere wise on simple geography.

If bsu got in a big 6 conference, their recruiting level would go up as well. I am one the few fans of a bcs conference school who thinks they could still be a top 15 or 25 team in a major conference. What kills that for them is academics.

I never said I don't think they would be a Top 15/Top 25 team in a Big-6 conference for football. They would still be very competitive. I just think there's no chance of them going undefeated in any of the Big-6 conferences.

Even the weaker of the Big 6 (Big East/ACC in my opinion) obviously has far more hurdles, week in and week out, then the WAC. I'd love to see them come into the Big 6 to see if I'm right but also realize it will never happen.

How many teams go undefeated in a bcs conference anyway? I think boise state's chances would be better than most's. I think they would be able to have a shot at a run or two.

But we will never really know.
