Orson Charles (announcing at 4:30 pm EST)

Why is everybody being so adament about Rex being wrong? Look at the signs for the answer you seek. Orson Charles has waited almost an entire month for his visit to SC. He gushes everytime he mentions SC and stated they were a childhood favorite. He also has mentioned his mother just wants him to get an education, and that distance would NOT be a factor. He is currently at the SC campus on a typically spectacular 75 degree So Cal winter day. His mother is in tow, and the coaches are giving him the tour.
I would say I am VERY, VERY confident that he will become a Trojan. If he wanted to go to UGA, he would have pulled the trigger. That ship has already sailed. Matt Barkely and Charles have already met on a few occasions and formed an instant bond. Also, Tampa native TJ Bryant, and new commits Frankie Telfort (Miami) and Jawanza Starling (Tampa) are chatting with OC on a regular basis. Starling, in particular, is fairly tight with OC.
We will all know more on Monday. However, I would say Rex is much closer than anyone else here. OC will be a Trojan by Sunday. If he is not already!

Finally, Plant (Tampa, Fla.) wide receiver/tight end Orson Charles will take his final official visit, to USC, this weekend and likely will make a decision following the trip. Sources continue to say that Georgia has the lead, followed by Tennessee, with USC having a puncher's chance. The only school among his finalists not mentioned often is Florida.

From SI...

I like the fact that it's basically between us and UGA. I know USC looks to have an angle but I think if they were really a priority he wouldn've visited a long time ago. Also, like people have said, if he really wanted to go to UGA I think he would've signed already.

I guess we truly stand no chance. Socal72deg, you are a god. Thank you once again for gracing us with your presence.

And lol at the childhood favorite part.

Trust me, he will be a Trojan. PC is on a roll in Florida right now. TJ Brant and Jawanza Starling are both in touch alot with OC. It's almost a done deal. I'll be shocked if it doens't happen soon.

Maybe the usual SC tradition of Sunday breakfast at the beach will cement the fact that OC is SC bound.

Seriously, why wait this long to announce? OC to SC soon. Breaking news!

The Kiffin ship has sailed. Charles would be wise to consider his potential place under a coach committed to offense.

I like Charles and think he can be a difference maker. And I can see reasons for him to choose either of the three schools (UGA, USC, UT).

Can't wait to find out where he is going.

I am more excited about this pick than Bryce Brown.

It doesn't appear that Southern Cal is a huge factor even though Charles is visiting there this weekend. It looks like a Georgia-Tennessee deal with Florida as a darkhorse.

Just as I said a few days ago. This is from today. Charles is cutting his list to two following the USC visit and I expect it to be the Vols and the Bulldogs left standing. Personally I really hope we land him. To lose another prospect to the Dawgs will just piss me off even more.

And for those that, earlier, were citing the fact that Charles has been calling UT's coaches and talking X's and O's as some sort of advantage for UT, he's been in contact with the Dawgs for the same purpose. Don't read too much into that - the kid is just doing his homework.

Don't kid yourself. Waiting for his visit to SC means nothing. BBs last visit is Miami and hes been committed there forever... I agree UGA maybe done, but don't put it by UT to get this guy.

well let's see...I'll use his logic. Monte Kiffin is from Tampa, at least the last 15 years. I hear he's been talking with OC trying to get him into UT. Yep, he's a UT lock.

I think people should take into account that Blake Ayles was also a highly touted TE who's slotted to be SC's starter next year and he's only a sophomore. Charles could come to Tennessee and overtake Stocker as the incumbent by our 3rd SEC game

UGA vs TN battle heading into this wknd. Obviously, anytime USC gets an official they are always a danger. So things could definitely change after the visit. However, he will likely still choose between TN and UGA. TN will run the same offense as USC, but we are closer, have better facilities and he can play from day 1. Charles could have a big effect on Brown as well.

Well, today in Los Angeles, it is overcast and dreary outside (typical SoCal weather for February), so I'm guessing Charles will hate it at USC now.

Crazy Seasonal Affect Disorder. Who knew it had such power?

And just as an aside, why anyone would want to go to USC is beyond me. Unattractive campus in a horrible part of town, overrated academically as an undergradute school, and the students are a weird combo of falsely entitled and intellectually unspectacular. And the Coliseum is a poor stadium for football - the fanaticism makes up for the fact that the stadium was designed for track and field and is quite outdated. Other than that, great place!

Please stay on topic, which is Orson Charles.

:hmm: You disappear for 3 weeks and come back with a stay on topic post in a thread that's already on topic? There are about 3 more threads in the recruiting forum that have gone completely off topic that you could have better chosen for your dramatic reentry. I'm kidding with you obviously...

His size and speed is intriguging. He looks ready to play for whoever he signs with. I would not be surprised at UGA, USC, or UT landing him. He has held his cards close. He would be a big pull, with one of the remaing RB's left. That would conclude a very successful first class for Lane and Co. It would be a good building block for the future classes.
