OS - really overhyped?

...OS was shooting 40% of their 3's as a team. Last night they went 4 for 24 (about 16%). The old saying, "live by the 3, die by the 3" was never more true...

It's worth mentioning that the LV's perimeter defense bothered OSU a LOT, especially in the first half. There was always a hand in their face or swiping at the ball. OSU was taken out of their game totally.

It wasn't until the second half when they went to the two man game with #24 and the big center forcing Carter and Russell to switch using the high screen that they began to dictate the game. The LV'S never effectively adjusted.

Surely this is something that strategy and practice will fix.

One thing that I did notice was that we continue to collapse and have a hard time covering the kick out. Last night during the first half was better but collapsing the wing or point to harass the post when we have two of our posts behind in defending just opens up the three for our opponent. I just don't see this strategy being worth the potential points it gives up. Teams that shoot the three are sometimes streaky and allowing them to get their motors running is a little risky.

It's either a fundamental coaching flaw or this bunch doesn't get it. We have had this problem for a few years now, so it appears that theory needs better coaching.

Plus we went back to free lance mode on offense quit looking for the best shot and started a lot of one on one play. I don't have a lot of hope that we will be a better team because it would take a coach that would have to hurt a few players feelings and I don't think Holly is capable of doing that. I knew their coach would figure out a way to score and it was a remarkable adjustment which like you said Holly had no answer for.

I think this is something that is being coached unlike driving into triple teams or passing the ball into traffic.

This was a good win anyway you look at it. These are the PAC 12 champions. We played a good game and have the talent to beat anybody. If Luigi was our coach we'd be National Champions without a doubt. So, this was a good win.

OSU played a rough (dirty) game last year at TBA. Are they still playing that type of ball? I really dreaded us having to play them at their home arena after watching them last year. Do we play them next year?
