OSU or G Tech?

Georgia Tech obviously

but I do think we match-up well with Ohio State.

I think Ohio State is a better matchup because they are a very small team and only play 6-7 guys (7th guy plays like 1-2 minutes a game). Their starters have all averaged 35 minutes plus during the Big Ten and NCAA tourney, so I think they could be very tired by the time they play us and they could be in a lot of trouble if they get a star player into foul trouble early. More importantly, we are really going to have to take into consideration who the fans are rooting for and if we play Ohio State I think the non-affiliated fans will be going for us. If we play GT, I think everybody will be going for GT. If you saw the Kentucky game in the SEC tourney, it's important for these guys to have fan support in big games, especially in what's going to be a Pro-Kansas crowd in the St. Louis regional. Finally, I think Ohio State is overrated and they are riding the Evan Turner wave. JP, Scotty and Cameron will be able to limit him because of our depth and length at the 2 and 3 position. Ohio State has not played well on the road this year and they tend to dominate on their home court, a lot like us.

Georgia Tech is a very big basketball team and I think we will have a lot of trouble stopping Favors, Lawal and Peacock who could really do some damage to us in the post. They are extremely solid defensively, long and a great rebounding team. They could easily beat Ohio State tomorrow. On the other hand, their guard play is piss poor and they tend to turn the ball over way too much and make a lot of careless mistakes, which Tennessee also does. The good thing is we have Pearl on our side and he is a much better X's and O's coach than Hewitt.

Just my two cents.

The bit about Ohio State being thin is not a big deal. You would think they would get tired, but watch their performance in the Big 10 tournament. Evan Turner averaged over 40 minutes a game (OT), and they still played at a high level. Dallas Lauderdale isn't great, but he's better than Williams. Buford is playing really well right now, and Jon Diebler is lethal from the outside

If I'm not mistaken doesn't Georgia Tech have a great inside game(something we struggle with) and Ohio ST. has their outstanding outside game(something we have a knack for shutting down),I like our matchup with OSU a little better(not to mention revenge will be on some player's minds)

Other than Wayne nobody else is left. Unless you are trying to get Quinn fired up for this game :)

Georgia Tech, like us, is very inconsistent. Ohio State has been pretty good since Turner got healthy. I don't want to deal with the shooting of Diebler outside. I'm not so fond of going against Lighty(defeated us in the Sweet 16) and Buford.

Tech.

Besides, it would ease the pain some if we lost to them. Vols can't "get revenge!!" against OSU anyway...different team, different year, different players.

Either way, I'm excited. The Vols may actually be peaking.

We beat SDSU and Ohio. I think it's a bit premature to say we're peaking. So far I think our peak was the win over UK.

The thing about Diebler is that he can't drive the basketball. Considering that, we could park Hopson on him and not have to worry about Hopson continuing to get beat off the dribble.

And if there is anyone on our team that I'd feel comfortable guarding Turner, it would be JP Prince. However, he's not a great 3pt shooter, so you could put Maze on him... either way, Buford draws one of our guards. That leaves Lighty which is a matchup problem... he's really a guard, and I don't know about Chism being able to go out and guard him.

Evan Turner creates that matchup problem. He's a Point-Foward. and they play 3 other guards. So it's essentially like a 4 guard set, except with great size. Maybe Pearl changes his lineup? Or maybe he goes to a zone? Either way, it's not good.

I hope Georgia Tech wins.

It will be a difficult game for us either way. If Ga Tech feeds there inside men, I don't think we have anyone that can match up with them. On the other hand, Ohio State is a better coached and more rounded team with the "best player" in the country. I'd like to see GT, but it isn't a landslide by any means.

We could see a 4-guard lineup against Ohio St. to match up with them.

Maze, Bone, Hopson, Prince, Chism/Williams/Hall

Goins, Maze, Tatum, Prince, Chism/Williams/Hall

Maze, Bone, Hopson, Prince, Chism/Williams/Hall

I think we could play well with those lineups out there. But JP has to be in there, because we can't rebound the ball well enough to go with something like....

Maze, Goins, Tatum, Hopson, Chism/Williams/Hall

We would get killed rebounding wise

Here's my take:

You put GT in the SEC & where would they finish this year? Probably around 4-5 behind Kentucky,Vandy,& UT & possibly Florida/MSU.

You put OSU in the SEC this year & where would they have finished? Probably 2nd behind only Kentucky.

I'd prefer GT anyday. However, both teams represent problems in different areas. I just think OSU is a much tougher opponent. We don't have anybody that can guard Evan Turner.

hat has said that Prince would give Turner problems, I tend to agree with that.

Considering that Turner has turnover issues, and Prince has the size to match-up and is the best on our team at creating turnovers... yes JP is probably most suited to matchup with him. But what to do with Diebler, Buford, and Lighty? Hopson, Maze, and....

IDK guys, I've watched about every game Tech has played this year, they are extremely long and Athletic like UT. They have improved vastly this year, and since there stud Freshman Favors is beasting it lately, I would probably rather play OSU right now.
Georgia Tech has tons of talent, and have underachieved all year, but now there finally starting to gel.

hmmmmm......... and I live in Columbus, and watch Ohio State play a lot, and I think that we might actually be able to take them. Most people up here are really down on OSU anyway. They don't really wow many people with their play. For most of the year they just let mediocre teams hang around, and then leave it up to Turner to win the game. Having said that, when they are playing well, I think they can beat just about anyone in the country.

Ohio State is going to rock G.Tech. We will have a chance if we can just find a way to contain Turner. I know that is a very obvious statement, but really, if Pearl can just find a way to slow him down, I'd feel confident about the matchup.

Gtech is like Vandy for us we do not match with them well. We match well with OSU but yes OSU is the better team. I say it is a wash.

After reading all this, it's pretty obvious that either team will be a challenge. It seems that about 70% want GA Tech and around 30% want Ohio State (just a rough guess from what I've read here). I think we can beat either team. Just have to stay solid on defense.

My question is this...what kind of game do we want today? Do we want it to be a very close game decided in the closing seconds or a blowout?

Prince certainly has the best chance at guarding him. However, even though Prince is pretty quick he's not quicker than Turner. Prince is long & athletic like Turner but I think he would get in foul trouble even more when guarding him.

We would probably use a lot of zone TBO. OSU still has the shooters in Diebler,Buford,& Lighty. Heck we may not even face them guys. It could bet GT instead.

Favors would be a tough matchup for us there. Chism has the size & strength but he too would probably get into foul trouble.
