OT is a huge need

how about former walk on?

and what happened to Blair? I thought he showed significant improvement over the summer?

Butch said in his presser earlier that Kendrick, Blair, and Thomas will compete for the spot. Also, I watched the replay earlier and noticed that Kendrick seemed to play well when he went in after Gilliam's injury. Hopefully he can play at a higher level than I anticipated.

People here in East Tennessee remember Kendrick playing basketball at CAK, and have witnessed first hand how athletic he is. He can really move (great feet) and quick for his size. He was called lazy by some, while others claimed he didn't have a mean-streak.

So we have a huge and athletic kid with great potential. Question is, will he play/practice hard or play with a mean-streak, whichever might be the problem with him? If he does these things, then we have another solid replacement.

Our total OL in terms of depth is still screwed up..We will be young up front for several years to come as we loose a lot after next season (2015) as well.

Next year
Crowder RSR- Starter
Kerbyson RSR- Starter
Jackson RSR- Starter
Robertson- Soph- Starter
Thomas/Richmond Soph/TFR

huh

Chance Hall will play OT

Some folks think Hall is a better prospect at LT than Richmond. Hall is very athletic and has been a DL until this year. Dylan Jackson may turn out to be the best LT guy we have. I know sometimes we want to move kids but he has the frame and agility to do it. If I were a kid with the potential to play LT I would do it in a heartbeat because there's more money there than about any lineman position.

Heard part of an interview on the radio today between Hyams and Danny Hood. Hood said from watching practices, Blair's downfall was he couldn't master the mental aspect of the game.

Hard to understand how we bring him in from JuCo if he wasn't ready to handle that part of the game.

If nothing else at least Blair is a big body to fill a hole if the chit hits the fan. Sometimes that's all you got. Who would have thought so many top athletes on SEC teams would have been sidelined last year.

Thomas is ready for RT. Kerbyson might have to move over to LT.

I wouldn't rule out Robertson converting to tackle as well.

Robertson is not a good fit at OT. He is almost ideal at OG. In a way, I think it's honestly best to keep a guy who is perfect at OG instead of taking away a potential AA by his JR/SR year and put him at OT where he isn't a good fit physically. He was one of the few guys that was just being nasty against USU. I remember one play where he took a guy and drove him across the field and took him to the deck then stood above him in a menacing pose almost daring him to try to get up. 6'3" is very short for an OT and he doesn't have nearly long enough arms.

And we do already have the following OL committed with my amateur predictions on where they end up:

Jack Jones OT

Zach Stewart (probably OG but can probably play both like Kerby)

Chance Hall (probably OT due to athleticism)

Venzell Boulware OG
NOTE: Boulware's offer listhttp://247sports.com/Recruitment/Venzell-Boulware-41033/RecruitInterests is a knockout for a "***" guy. He's a **** on Rivals and surely will get a 4th on 247.

We need Richmond to really complete the group. I also think that Charles Mosley will trim down and end up at OG probably left-side opposite Robertson. DT, if we get Tuttle, is going to be ridiculously stacked.

What Dooley did to us in 2012 should be considered criminal. That ridiculous phlegm wad is still hindering this program. Thanks a lot Dooley you moron.

2012 also only netted 1 LB with Kenny Bynum. 2012 had 2 CBs but neither made it on campus for any significant amount of time (Bonner and Gray).

It did give us O'Brien, Croom and Pig. For that we can be thankful but thats about it.

Maybe Alex Givens is a take if Richmond goes Ole Miss at first. If we took 6 OL in this class, I'd be tickled.

just collecting a paycheck...

I often wonder if he switched to the 3-4 defense that last year to help speed up his exit. A coach should adjust his scheme based on his players talents. Why does a coach switch his defensive scheme when he is already coaching for his job.

cause he was just collecting a paycheck & hoping for that buyout.

It's going to be sad when we will have to convert K Mckenzie to OT :(

I was actually decently impressed by Brett Kendrick. He did not do bad at LT at all.

Honest question for those coaches who frequent these threads, would moving to a 2 back set with a full back give us some more options in support of the OT's? and before any alphageek starts shredding me Im asking this question as a guy who last played football on Super Tecmo bowl.

went to a one-back scheme and dropped the fullback. In the 1990s/early 2000s we had good tailback running behind brutish fullbacks and we hurt people with the run game. Our running game now is Nancy ball compared to the years when we had guys like Stewart toting the rock and Brunson at FB knocking linemen and linebackers on their ass. Seriously--it is not even close.

Wasn't really his question. With reference to that, you're probably better off leaving a TE in to help with the pass rush than a FB. This is in general but obviously depends on the specific TE and FB.

If needed, you can even motion a TE into the backfield.

Hall can play tackle. Jones and Stewart can play both. Jackson could end up there in a couple of years. We also have all the guys already here, Thomas, Kendrick, Kerbyson, Sanders... We will be fine though it would be nice to have Richmond there with Boulware and Jones at guard, Hall at the other tackle, and Stewart the wildcard. He looks like he could be an awesome center.
