OT: Volnation members and bashing recruits

Umm, what?

Long story short -- While Florida and Alabama are loading up on 5-star and 4-star recruits, Dooley and staff are stealing recruits away from ECU, Vandy, and LA Tech.

It gives some Vol fans reason to worry.

So he was Madonna before Madonna was Madonna?

These kids better get used to it, if they can't handle a little criticism, game over.

They should know the game by now, if they aren't coming to your school, then they suck, it's just they way it is.

Yeah, but wait until they go elsewhere. It makes no sense to bash our players and prospects just to get your sick jollies off.

I saw this and thought everyone here in the recruiting forum should read it's contents... (So we don't negatively effect a recruit that UT is recruiting)

Recruits and their parents read message boards...we have seen that first hand here at VN...

So you are worried. With your logic, bashing our players and prospects makes it all better. Huh??? Makes a lot of sense to me.

DD was handed a disaster and he is trying to make the best of it. It won't help him get 4 and 5 star recruits with some of our brilliant fans calling prospects and their families disparaging names.

why bash a kid that wants to play for UT?If there is something you dislike about a player it is fine to say what you don't like and why,but a lot of comments are way over the top,but some on here are just crazy with what they say,if a player wants to give His All for Tennessee ,he is welcomed by me

Everyone has an opinion. Most of the time people that bash others are low character individuals. My Mom aways taught me that if you can't say something positive about someone, then don't say anything at all. Probably the same thing that most of us were taught.

My rule has always been that I would not print something about someone that I would not say to that person's face. When it comes to kids, we should leave them alone. They're kids that want to play ball somewhere. They can't all be Vols. I have also learned that you never give your competition any incentive. If they don't end up being Vols, we will probably play against them someday.

Never wake up the sleeping giant!!! JMO

You're right... who wants a team full of Chris Johnsons(ECU), Jay Cutlers(Vandy), and Terry Bradshaws(LaTech)????

If you guys will do some research into the AJC articles about Mason, you will find just as many UGA fans bashing him, even after he signed, and calling his signing nothing but a PR move by CMR.
The reference to VQ is sour grapes because he really wanted an offer from UT and it never came.

“I have a comment that someone put on Volquest.com that my dad showed me,” Mason said. “It said: ‘Hutson Mason will never play a down in the SEC. He’ll never do anything. He’s garbage.’ I printed it out and put it in my locker and highlighted it and it’s still in my locker right now. So every day I open up my locker I see it before I work out. You just use all that stuff for motivation. Sometimes you just want to take some action and prove somebody wrong.”

This reminds me of the movie "Invincible" with Mark Walberg. His Ex wrote him the letter when she left him that he would never make anything of himself. He used it as motivation and proved her wrong. Pretty awesome really.

As a side note, Louisiana Tech has the same number of NFL hall of famers as we do..... So shouldn't we wonder "What's the probability becoming an NFL legend after going to a BCS conference college as opposed to a dinky school like LaTech?"

Great thread OP.

I may be mistaken but I can't remember seeing this many classless posts last year around this time. I don't know that anything posted on this message board has a lot of influence on recruits but I do know for a fact that several recruits do come on here and read some of this stuff. I would hate to know that we lost out on a potential difference maker because some idiot had to bash on the kid.

I think you are missing the point of the thread....Mason was just an example of a recruit that caught wind of a message board...

The point is... to not bash recruits while we are recruiting them...ie. Ambles...it makes no sense...

...and the point about being of high character...

If you actually read what I said, you would see that I wrote "Reason to worry" not "Reason to bash our players".

I got your point.
The prospects that do not have a huge CHIP on their shoulder, do not give a rip about the fan boards.
You are taking this WAY too serious.

5-star recruits are 60 times more likely to become an All-American than a 2-star.

Why don't you ask Kentucky how this plan of "hoping for a Chris Johnson, Jay Cutler, or Terry Bradshaw" out of all the lower ranked recruits is working out for them.

I am not trying to defend people bashing our recruits, just to voice my concern that maybe these are not the caliber of recruits that are going to be able to get us back to the top of the SEC.

Im not taking anything too seriously...I thought ppl at volnation would find the article an interesting read...thats why I posted it...

I commented on you because you brought up the AJC stuff to try and make a point that wasn't relevant here at VN...

I can see that you are another STAR GAZER. If you have the right coaching and the right kids, you will be successful. UT has done good things b4 with a lot less talent that looks like it may becoming to town.

I hope you are right. It's hard not to look at Florida and Alabama's recruits and worry.

Wasn't relavent? It is exactly what you are talking about. You tell us not to bash kids, and I agree by the way, and I point out that it is being done by fans of the very school that he signed with. How is that not relavent?
This article by the AJC was a pure fluff piece to draw attention to UGA right before NSD. They have lost a couple of guys over the past couple of days and are about to lose another.
The article is interesting, but it is a PR peice and nothing else.

Great thread. Lots of recruits google themselves. In a lot of cases, message boards talking about that recruit are the first sites that come up. Kids shouldn't make their college decisions based on such things but we really shouldn't risk it.

For example, all the idiots bashing Ambles for being a pre-madonna.

I'm sure it's been said, but it's prima donna, it's italian.

Anyhow, the kid should be thanking whomever made the comments. It is making him work harder to prove the naysayers wrong.

Look at it this way. The things that will be said by opposing fans won't have a filter like our Mods do.Don't look if you don't want to see it. They can tell the difference in objective analysis and some idiot trash talking. If they can't, it likely won't matter anyway.
