Pat: We'll see how they do against Tennessee, a thorn in their side in more ways than one. That should be a lovely scene when [Phillip] Fulmer comes to Bryant-Denny Stadium. In the East, Tennessee absolutely has the best talent. But after the offseason they had, I was a little bit wary about where their heads are, which opens the door for Florida. I'm sold on Urban Meyer.

Ivan: Aren't we all? I like them better than Tennessee. In Urban We Trust. Tennessee has to go to Gainesville and Baton Rouge, which I remain convinced had something to do with Fulmer not showing up in Birmingham last year. Funny how that scheduling popped up, isn't it?

Actually I agree with that. Who knows where are head is really. They said we have the most talent be far, but said we have the hardest schedule. As much as yall hate to admit it, most of that is true. But hey at least they mention us. Some teams would kill to be in our shoes.

Well, the two big knocks I see on us from EVERYONE (not just ESPN) are:

1. Bad offseason - True.

Too many arrests, too many injuries, too much surgery. It was indeed a bad offseason.

2. Tough schedule - True.

While it may not be the toughest schedule in the country (see: North Carolina), it probably is the toughest conference schedule in the SEC. It's hard to give any team with road trips to Florida, LSU, Bama and Notre Dame credit with strong Rose Bowl contention.

That said, most people do seem to place too much confidence in Urban Meyer, however a lot of posters here seem equally sold that he will burn which is equally as baseless as saying he will dominate.

Yeah - I don't see what is so idiotic about either of those statements. Right or wrong, they are based in fact.

I'm a little dumbfounded though at the free pass that the media as a whole is giving Urban Meyer in inheriting a team with 15 losses in the last 3 years.

Yeah but the talent is there for him to mold. Really i dont see florida losing that many games again this year.

Never said they were idiotic, it just seems like we're always overlooked, even if we're USA Today preseason no. 3.

I like it better that way anyway, though.

i dont think the scheduling had anything to do with him skipping media day...the schedule was made 2 or 3 years ago...that was a stupid comment

Nah I dont think its that either. They dont always talk bad about us, you just block out the good and listen to the bad.

I'm not as concerned about what they are saying about us as much as how far their collective heads are stuck up Urban Meyers butt.

well that much is true. but he is a hell of a coach. He has turned around two programs and will proably do the same in Florida. I dont expect him to be there long though. I think his calling is the nfl.

Charles, you're gonna get crucified for saying that. :laugh1:

Meyer is going to flop because the SEC is just too good and you know it

Not to beat a dead horse here, but turning around Bowling Green and Utah is not that great of an accomplishment. It's an accomplishment, but not a great one. I think that if I had a choice, I would rather have an .800 winning percentage in the SEC over the last 13 years or so....that's a great accomplishment.

If Riggs starts racking up Heisman like numbers lets see how much play they give him.

If we could paste a NIKE swoosh on his shoes and helmet that would probably help some. But the bottom line is in what Ivan said, "I don't like Tennessee."

He said it.

It sure as hell shows.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to tune in to them is if the Vols are playing or there's a game I really want to watch. Most of the time then I just turn the sound down real low and watch the game.

If Riggs does have a banner season It's going to be interesting to watch them submarine him.

As long as they have the monopoly they have no UT player will ever stand a chance at the Heisman.

They said it, "They don't like Tennessee."

Spin away ESPN apologists.

That's what I'm saying....Urban Meyer hasn't even played a game in the SEC and they are already saying that they've "bought into" him....They don't even know what Florida is going to do, new offense and all, in the SEC....If that doesn't say that they've got their heads up the Florida schools butts then I dunno what does.

There must be a lot of room up there because some on this board know what he had for breakfast. All they have to do is sniff. :moon2:

Seeing as this schedule was made 4 years ago, yep had everything to do with Fulmer not going to Birmingham

Thank you. Exactly what I noticed. I guess prior to Fulmer staying away from the spiteful "lawyers" (and I do use that term loosely, out of respect for the friends I have who are legitimately interested in practicing law), we were going to line up against Alcorn State and Maine, at home, on the 17th and 24th? Statements like the above really undermine the integrity of a sports analyst.

You know what, though? I'm over it. We control our own destiny. Let's hope the team isn't even concerned with all this garbage and, instead, focuses on getting ready for the opener and a couple of killer road games. If we can get to 3-0, I bet you might hear a different tune from the songbirds that are so quick to sing Meyer's praises.
