It is a solid unit who will produce well. I am going to get flamed for this, but I haven’t seen anyone at RB who wows me. They are all good backs but none of them make that move to avoid a defender and then take it to the house. Maybe one will develop into that. Maybe the preponderance of DBs in the field makes that difficult. We just don’t seem to have a lot of home runs. A bunch of doubles though.

I also don’t see any of these in the same breath as say the Travis’ but they’re really solid. But I feel I’m tracking with you. Plenty good enough but I don’t see super star in any of them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ not yet anyway

The rotation keeps them all fresh, and they can give that extra strain knowing a sub will be coming soon.

Don’t have to have one superstar, long as they produce as a unit that’s all that matters. They did it last season, I think this season we will see the same thing. It was a 55/45 split last season. I think we see 60/40 split between run and pass this year

Legit question and may be a question others who attended the game live can respond too. Of the 6 catches, I think at least half of them, were when we split the RBs out and they were 1st option as somewhat of an extension of the running game.

RBs were targeted 6 times with 4 of them in first two drives, not sure I see a problem.
Y'all's thoughts were insightful ones to pursue, so I went back to the game video.
(Which probably means there's something else I should be doing instead.)

1st pass to RB was to Sampson on the score. Milton went through his full progression of receivers before going to RB in the flats. But to be fair, this was from the 9 yard line, and there’s never a lot of space for receivers to get open down there.

2nd pass to RB was to Small on the next drive, but he appeared to have lined up in the slot and was probably first or second receiver in the progression.

3rd pass to RB was to Small, who stayed in to pass protect, then released up the middle once there was no blitz. The RB was probably the third or fourth receiver in that progression, and he came up short of the first down.

4th pass to RB was to Small, again lined up in the slot, either the first or second receiver, depending on the coverage.

5th pass to RB was to Wright, a shovel pass in the backfield after Milton began rolling out right.

So it looks like only twice did Milton throw to the RB because the rest of the receivers were covered.
And in fairness to the receivers, Milton may have missed an open receiver. I saw at least twice that happened.

But we all know the greatest leap in improvement is from the first to second game, so these are fine points, not criticisms or concerns unless they remain.

I think there’s a couple games that Milton COULD win if the run gets taken away from us, but if we’re going to go as far as we think we can, that run game has to keep the offense fluent. I fully believe that was part of why the UGA game went the other way, we abandoned it too early.

Either way, the season is here, Vols are 1-0 and #WGWTFA
I really don't think we could have run on ga. last year

They’re using “organic” topping on the field vs the usual rubber pellets.

Why other than optics I don’t know

Well, I comment to those watching that the turf had a relative real look about it with the slight brown/tan tint in areas. But, their did seem to be a few footing issues.

All 3 of our returning backs looked stronger and quicker. We're looking pretty good at the position this year. Couple of things I noticed.

Samson was used to hammer it up the gut on several plays. That boys is more than a track star.

Small juked that one tackler out of his jock strap and got 10-15 more. He's got a sick dead leg move ala Sony Michel.

Wright really look dangerous running between the tackles. That boy has learned the quickest way to get from point A to B.

I noticed Seldon pop that run outside immediately in the replay. Looked like a typical FR RB going on instinct vs HS teams and biuncing straight for the sidelines on the way to another 65yd TD v 155# DBs. He'll figure it out.

I want to see more of K Keith. Looks the part out there.

I love the balance of this offense. Gonna give our opponents fits. Just gotta catch those balls and avoid turnovers or penalties. The coaches have put us in a position to win out. It is up to the players to execute.

I think they said it’s supposed to have a more natural grip to it too (more like grass vs turf) but I don’t know for sure. Would rather not have players slipping obviously

I do not Trust Miltons ability to consistently hit the throws Hooker did or move the chains with his feet, however I am hoping the deep threat creating soft run defense and Wrights progression allows the offense to roll up points a bit differently vs 2022
