Our schedule is very favorable for a big year next season

After the season we just had...I will forgo the ubiquitous pre-season predictions again this year. As we saw....so many variables its to hard to predict with any legitimate accuracy. ANY prognostication at this point would only be triflingly nonsensical.

I don't think that's entirely true.

Because the thing that threw us all off last year was, we didn't know just how good a coaching staff Josh Heupel & Co are.

But now we know.

In fact, we know a TON more about our program this off-season than we did last off-season.

The one big, glaring unknown off the 2023 off-season is this: how good a QB can Josh and Joey turn Joe Milton into? He's already a good one; can they make him good enough to be in Heisman conversations? Can they make him a 40-60 point per game QB? Otherwise, the offense is certainly good enough to meet that mark.

It all comes down to how they QB-whisper Milton. And, far behind but still worth tracking, how much can our defensive backfield improve?

Go Vols!

As much as you hate Alabama they’re not having the same kind of season next year. Expecting Tennessee to not miss a beat is a recipe for disappointment.

One thing for sure they want have Bryce Young, we would have beat them by 21 if not for him. He did some Houdini moves and kept plays alive that were sacks and drive stoppers. As much as I despise Bama Young was still the best QB in the land this year. Without him they would have lost at least 4 and maybe 5.
All that said it is very hard place to play and as much as we want USCjr next year, the Gumps want us just as much.

We never really have a favorable schedule when we play at UF, at Bama after what we did to them this year and UGA. Texas A&M should be better next year too.

I'm thinking 10-2 again. It will really depend on how much we can improve on defense, particularly LB and DB.

New era at Tennessee under Coach Heupel. We now are in teams heads. This year will be second straight undefeated at Neyland. This years step advancement will be the SEC East representative, SEC Champion and playoff spot.

This far out who knows. It could be 8-4 to 12-0.

I will not get called a Joe Hater so I will put it this way. Offense consistently scores more than 40, 9 will be the floor. Otherwise 10 is ceiling and most likely 8-4 or 9-3 season.

Bryce young was their entire offense. They have a huge question mark to fill at QB.

I fully expect them to simply reload at the QB position. They won multiple national championships with QBs with less talent. However, I believe we still win at Bama next year.

Good points. They certainly are the big variables to be considered.

UT will regress a bit, IMO, in ‘23. Bama & A&M are still loaded with talent beyond what UT has on their roster. Florida will be better and on the road, and it isn’t like UT completely dominated them in ‘22. I can see 3 or 4 losses on that schedule. UT just hasn’t had the consistent recruiting success to maintain 10 or 11 win seasons (yet).

Just an honest opinion - not anything negative.

💯 Bama is an unknown quantity right now. Maybe they get a stud transfer or the lights come on for Milroe in the offseason, but as of now that is a very winnable game in Tuscaloosa.
Exactly, Thank you. The combined affects of the transfer portal + NIL $$$$ make "predictions" about next years record...THIS FAR in advance a total guessing game. Enjoy it, if guessing is your thing. You can spend all Winter looking at a team's current roster, estimating the development potential of the players on the team and predicting strength and weakness that they will have. That USED to have some meaning. No more. Coupla big NIL deals to bring in players with proven skills and all your carefully worked out scenarios are worthless. Oh, and BTW...it works the other way too. We could LOSE a key player or two and totally change the makeup of the team we field next Fall.

I'm hearing that hotel rates in Knoxville for the Georgia game are already jacked up. At least Jeremy Pruitt saved me some money back when we sucked.

THat back up QB looked inept when he filled in. Wouldn't be surprised to see a portal QB come in. If they have a roster QB ready to start next season at the level of play they've been accustomed to the last 4 QB's or so, then they have him hidden very well.

Maybe? I doubt they have a QB as talented as Young though either.

Agree if

1. The bowl game Joe Milton is the real deal. He's improved since stepping on campus. Looked poised and showed touch on his throws in the bowl game and against Vandy. Feel pretty good that he's turned the corner.

2. Improvement from the DB's. No where to go but up. Hopefully, some new players will give better results.
You hit the nail on the head. We just need consistency from Milton and for the defense to be better. Idk that Milton has to be like Hooker and have an elite offensive putting everytime.

It is positively nuts what has happened to the hotel situation for next year. I started trying to book rooms back in October and there's just not any availability downtown. Occasionally a room becomes available and the rates are just comical.
