OUR SECONDARY IS GOING TO GET PICKED APART. THE KEY IS NOT GIVING UP BIG PLAYS AND PLAYING FIELD POSITION. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS GOING TO BE A HIGH SCORING GAME. SO HOPEFULLY WE HAVE ALOT OF SUCESS RUNNING THE FOOTBALL AND CONTROLLING THE CLOCK.

When Leak get pressured he makes mistakes, when he get's sacked he becomes undone. The key is to keep Leak pressured early and often. If we give him time to throw, he will burn us, if we pressure him, he will get burned.

That is the key.

I think those slants you guys are so worried about won't be as much of an issue if our man Chavis mixes things up and sometimes drops the LBs into coverage... Leak will be confused by the D all game long, and won't find opportunities to even THINK.

Big plays? Maybe a few... enough to lose the game? Not a chance. I'm PUMPED for Saturday!!!

i Dont believe out defense played all that bad i mean yea we gave up yards in passing but they didnt have anything running against us. I mean you cant shut out both!!! We played alot of zone to we was not fast enough makeing our cuts. You cant say they didnt do good i mean yes passing they got yards but you have to be able to run the ball to win!!!!

:clapping: A 2 deep zone with 6 db's would work I think...extra safety's would close up slant routes and protect against the deep ball better.

Well gents maybe some of you were at a different game than we were when we played UAB.  If I would have been Watson Brown and noticed that I couldnt' run on you but I could pick you apart with the pass, I would have started with the pass allot earlier.  If they would have, I have no doubt, that us winning that game was a longshot.  It was just that they didn't switch to a strictly pass offense in-time.  So in my opinion we escaped.
If i'm Urban Meyer and Chris Leak i'm licking my chops.  Our secondary looked horrendous!, and regardless what anyone thinks we didn't not play that well up front.

Don't get me wrong I BLEED ORANGE!  I just don't understand how anyone who watched the UAB game can say we looked alright on defense.  We really need to shore things up and the defensive front really needs to put pressure on Leak.  I agree with everyone that Hackney is the real deal and he played a great game, we just didn't apply constant pressure.  We definitely have the skills I just hope we get going on all cylinders by this Saturday.

I do have a question for soemone out there because I couldnt' find much on it.  Why was Riggs out for so many series during the UAB game?  I saw Yancey and Foster on the field a lot more than I thought I would.  Riggs is a horse so we should be riding him to victory!

I say we win in the same fashion we did in '98 as mentioned above.  We need to get to Leak often!

GO VOLS!

I think the secondary played a lot better than some are giving them credit for. Hackney made some great plays in the fourth, and there were several completions in which we had good position and just barely missed making the play. Granted, close does not cut it but I think we knocked some rust off and will make those close plays saturday. With the exception of the TD pass we did not gove UAB's receivers a lot of room and I did not see the busted coverages and just plain getting turned around like we saw out of the DB's so many times last year. I have watched the game three times now and thought the secondary looked a lot better than they did at almost any point last year, and no QB we face for the rest of the year is going to be able to avoid sacks like Hackney did. I will agree that we need more pressure up front, but keep in mind that our defensive schemes were very vanilla and I don't think we scratched the surface of what Chavis will unleash against FLA.

Our defensive secondary should compete with Florida receivers just fine.... They covered well against UAB, but being 6" 3" and 230#, the UAB QB was able to escape and eventually find a receiver.

Leake won't be able to escape so easily. If the defensive line puts the heat on Leake, Allen and Mayo should have no problem in keeping up with the receivers.
