Out of Line to Ask About Recruiting?

It wasn’t a stupid question. Those that “chastised “ you about it are wondering the same thing.........
Probably never crossed any of the coaches mind to recruit, after all they’ve all only been doing this their entire adult life

Not that I want to be that guy, but I''m seeing reports on darn near every imaginable aspect of our new coaching situation, except recruiting. We lost guys after Pruitt was fired. Defections happen in that situation. So the normal thing for the new coach to do is speak with the team and the recruits, that is to save the class one way or another. Maybe Coach is keeping it on the QT, but I am seeing nothing about his tagging base with the 2021 Class. Does anybody have news about staff trying to keep the Class together while adding a few of the best players in the country?
He can't say who he is recruiting. Recruits can report it if they choose and many have reported being contacted.

But he said those UCF players are free to do what they want so we could see some UCF players hit the portal and come to UT IMO.
I heard conflicting reports about how he got along with his team down there. He had a lot of opt outs....

Heupel is bringing the TE coach with him, who was the recruiting coordinator at Iowa State with Matt Campbell. He was responsible for 4 of their top 5 classes ever, and if you can recruit to Ames, Iowa, then I think getting kids to Knoxville should be possible.
That's definitely encouraging.

Tbh though that could've happened anywhere this year. Alot of people are scared of covid. The players that opted out may have young children or older folks that they were concerned for. It's not necessarily that they didn't get along with their coach. It would've been a much bigger red flag if they had transferred imo.

Incredibly tough to recruit not knowing the ncaa sanctions likely coming.
Hopefully some good legacy players out there, transfers wanting playing time & local east Tennessee kids that just want to run thru the T, past that its going to be tough

from 2011-2014 USC lost 30 scholarships. 10 per recruiting season.
Yet they still finished in the Top 10 twice in recruiting and top 15 the other year. 2 year Bowl ban. Their was always good. even then.
Because the PWO program, you can still get good practice in and not have to worry about injuring all your scholarship players. USC even won their division one of those years but couldn't participate in the Conference Championship.
So when you recruit you can actually pitch that there are less players and quicker opportunity to get on the field. Shortened season so you can enjoy holidays with family without worrying about having to fly back and forth

There are positives to this..,

There are not positives to this and UT is not USC coming off of the Pete Carroll era
