OWH's Topic That Will Never Die XXIII

So last night I was watching the Marlins Padres game and the announcers kept referring to the away team at bat as the bottom of the inning and the home team at bat as the top of the inning -- the home team Padres won in the "bottom" of the ninth when the last batter for the Marlins hit a pop fly to the infield. I think Tony gwynn was one of the announcers, and this bothered me so much.

Was this a rare “make up” game in which the visiting team was given the bottom of the inning because that particular game was supposed to have taken place at their home field?

Once, many years ago, I witnessed something like the above. A weather event had prevented a game between two teams in a series. The game was made up at the next series at the other field. The visitors were allowed to bat last in the make up game.

I dont think so, the game ended after the "bottom" of the ninth before the padres batted. The padres were dressed in home unis too. Still, there's something I'm missing, surely.

I’m going to meet a group in Hiram, GA this morning to ride a section of the Silver Comet Trail. We start cycling at 8:00am. The drive there can take up to 110 minutes, given metro Atlanta’s morning commuter traffic.
