And is an alcoholic.

Miami Marlins' Ozzie Guillen apologizes for Fidel Castro comment - ESPN
Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen apologized Saturday for telling a magazine he loves Fidel Castro, two days after saying he gets drunk at the hotel bar after every game. "I get drunk because I'm happy we win or I get drunk because I'm very sad and disturbed because we lose. Same routine, it never changes. It's been the same routine for 25, 28 years. It doesn't change. I don't like to go out."

Guillen told Time magazine he loves Castro and respects him for staying in power so long. When Guillen read his comments Friday, he said he felt sick because he knew how people would react.

So basically, he drinks anytime he has feelings... which I'm assuming is everyday. I doubt his drinking problem ends after 162 games have been played. Probably drunk when he gave the interview claiming to love Castro.

Don't think the drinking comments really matter. The man can do what he wants in his free time. However, he may get ousted by the Miami Cuban population.

He was obviously joking about the drinking. The Castro comments . . . just stupid.

These are some examples of the new team uniforms that Guillen wanted as well.

5 Game suspension from Marlins.

Apologizing during presser currently.

Selig just went straight hypocritical mode with his "MLB cares about social responsibilites" bit

I like Ozzie and think he's a great fit for that club and that community. I was pretty convinced he is/was genuinely apologetic to the Latin community for his comments. With that being said, the general public needs to take a step back and realize who he is and what he does.

He's a baseball manager.

furthermore, suspending the guy is absolutely stupid. Unless they're buying time to replace him within the next 2 weeks.

If the Marlins didn't suspend him, fans in that area would go nuts. Great fit for that community came to a screeching halt when he said that.

Fans in that community are already going nuts. Suspending him is not going to eliminate that reaction.

So he has 5 games. Big deal. They'll just have more time to organize the protests and whatnot prior to his return.

Suspending him only acknowledges and further gives merit to the idea that what he said should have that deep of an impact. The Marlins organization just told their fanbase, they recognize the implications of his actions and IMO, they threw gas on the fire.

That was a dumb move on their part.

I dont blame them for hiring him. Cant say I blame them for the new logo/ image/ cultural link ect ect. They did know they hired Ozzie though, and he comes with some baggage in regards to his actions.

With all that being said, when a guy gets in to water over his head, its not time to turn your back on him. What they should have done is taken a similar stance to his and offer an apology, but also stand behind him and say something to the effect of, "He's a manager. He's our manager and he made a mistake. We're in the business of baseball, not politics. We'd now like to return to the business we do best. Baseball."

If they stood behind him fully on this, they'd be done. Done. In that community.

Look at it the in same regards as Bobby Petrino's deal. Whats the guy actually guilty of? Is that a football issue?
