Ozzie Guillen loves Fidel Castro

If they stood behind him fully on this, they'd be done. Done. In that community.

I get that, but instead of meeting in the middle, they through him to the wolves. Now they have evolved their circus to a full blown carnival.

That would have gone very poorly

I get what you're saying.. even in regards to the Petrino thing.. but I think the people in that community wanted to see some form of punishment. And the Marlins couldn't just blindly stand behind him after that crap.

Ozzie did well to take a complete beating in front of the media today for 45ish minutes, and not lash out or anything.

Selig's comment is still funny.

The passion and depths of their hatred towards Castro is incredible. There is truly no solution/ suspension/ punishment that would be suitable enough for him in their eyes.

I am suggesting that they had an opportunity to make this "healing" process speed up. Acknowledge it. Unite around it. Apologize for it, and immediately move on from it. 5 games is not going to make that go away any quicker and now we'll all get to watch the reaction for the next 3 weeks on SC every morning. The Miami Herald will have only one story to follow for the next month and it didnt have to be that way.

Reminds me of Stern after the big fight involving Artest and the fans. #The NBA cares.

Be aware of who you choose for idols. You're destined for disappointment eventually.

He was obviously joking about the drinking. The Castro comments . . . just stupid.

Why was he "obviously joking"?

I don't think he was. I drink a lot and lots of people on this website think I'm crazy. He has plenty of time to say crazy crap, why choose to say it during an interview? I've always thought the dude was crazy. At least being an alcoholic would make sense. Otherwise, all he has ever been good for is swinging a bat and grounding balls.... nevermind, that's probably true.

I've never understood his fans on this site. I'm not saying you're one of them, but it certainly sounds like you are. There was nothing obvious about his drinking problem being a joke. I think it's obvious he is an alcoholic. Guess we're at a crossroads. You like Ozzie, I do not.

I'm thinking Ozzie makes him ^ look sober.

I don't know how you took GA being an Ozzie fan from his drinking comment, unless, you know, you're drunk..

and none of us would have ever known otherwise. Similar to Josh Hamilton's deal. That's not a baseball issue. Thats a personal issue. It does not effect the feild of play. Kinda like a guy's view on a certain dictator.

He's a baseball manager. Might be an alcoholic. And he's won a world series.

When I see Ozzie I see a latin American baseball manager that beat the Stros sadly and speaks broken english.

I dont see a drunkard who loves Communisim.

I care more about the first sentence than I do the second.

But you can't say it's not anyone's business if someone chooses to tell you.

As for the World Series, there is a thing called being a functioning alcoholic. Not that hard filling out a card for the batting order, 1-9 is difficult.

If the guy has a problem, I hope he gets help. That doesn't change the fact he told everyone. Maybe it's a cry for help? It's not surprising people would think less of him though when he publicly states he drinks anytime he's happy or sad.

It's just odd I get attacked while people jump to defend his drinking problem. I guess it's okay to say and do as you please as long as you tell the world and are rich.

Saying you love Castro is something a drunk person would say. If he was sober, wow.

Saying Josh Hamilton's issue doesn't/didn't affect the field of play is laughable.

I can see how you can make the argument that his comments shouldn't really matter but look where he is the coach. It's a community that is dominated by people that have been directly affected, in a very negative manner, by the person he said he loves. It may not be the same to me or you, but can you imagine how what would happen if Girardi said he loved Osama?

I get all of that. My point is the Marlins conducted damage control to save season ticket sales. In the process they fed him to the wolves.

So is he getting suspended for drinking or the Castro remarks? I thought we were allowed to support who we want to in this country...
