In overall conference strength, this year, I'd tend to agree. But how many teams have they had playing for a national title in the second half of this decade again? How many BCS titles have gone west in that span? The SEC is THE conference until another one can at least compete with it for titles on a regular basis.

some of the things theyve said:

Vs AP top 25
Sec 7-25 28% win percentage
Pac-10 13-30 43% win percentage
that also means that the pac-10 plays tougher in conference games meaning pac-10 is stronger

pac-10 5 BCS top 25
SEC- 3 BCS top 25

I got these numbers off some SEC website...
"past 11 years (1998 - 2008), the Pac-10 actually leads the SEC 10-7 (.588)"

Pac-10 is 7-7 against SEC all time in bowl games
thus this, "and i garauntee those pac 10 teams' records wouldnt be as good if they were in the SEC." is f***ing retarded

SEC is 42-6 in non-conference this year. 9-4 against BCS opponents. Best winning % of any conference in both categories.

PAC 10 is 21-9, and 8-8 respectively.

SEC has the most talent, and the highest paid coaches. I think the PAC 10 is the 2nd best conference, but it's not the SEC. Come on...Tennessee has as many BCS titles as the entire PAC 10.

Mark Twain has a quote for those statistics. At least 17 of those SEC games involved a loss to either UF or Bama. Both of those teams have been condidered the best in the game all year. The Pac 10 is a conference of teams just good enough to be ranked. The head to head record means absolutely nothing unless you consider the matchups. 2006 USC vs Arkansas tells you nothing about conference strength. Your friends are idiots. I can't help but notice you are in Indiana. Why are you arguing with Pac 10 homers? Did they all give up on the Big Ten?

no, they just hate the SEC so when they saw that on espn they jumped all over it. theyre saying the pac 10 has better depth.

I actually agree that it has marginally better depth... this year. There is no way to prove it on either side though. That is probably why they are all over this. The only objective way to settle it is to look at which conference has more BCS titles and which currently has more BCS bowl teams. The Pac 10 can't compete with the SEC when it comes to excellence in football over the time span that they have selected. NO ONE cares whether or not Washington could beat Arkansas or Kentucky or even Mississippi State.

the sec is the best conferance in collage football, for the last 20 years since the bcs startedand even before the bcs i believe that flordia won ncaa tital in 95 and bama won in 92,the pac 10 is taking turns with big 12 and big ten for second best conference

When OU destroys Stanford , BYU beats the Beavers, Ohio State squeaks past Oregon and USC doesn't cover the point spread against Boston freakin College will you still say the Pac 10 is better...because all of that is going to happen.

If that statistic uses in-conference games, and it looks like it does judging from the number of games, then it's absolutely worthless. So when Bama beat Florida the SEC went 1-1 against the top-25 that day, which tells you nothing.

Also, if by 7-25 he means 7 wins and 25 losses, that's a winning percentage of 22% (7 wins in 32 games). 13-30 would be 30%, which makes it closer. But I'm doubting the stats are worth anything anyway.

The PAC 10? Sure they have good ball clubs but arent nearly as good top to bottom. Sorry they dont get my vote.
Call me a homer all you want but I just dont see a conference out there that has the SEC beat from top to bottom year in and year out.

I hope you didn't put too much money on that parlay. I didn't pic the Pac-10 to go undefeated, but I did pick against you on all those games.

Generally speaking, any level-headed college football fan will tell you over time the SEC is the best there is.

While Alabama and likely Florida are better than any Pac-10 teams save possibly Oregon, there a throng of Pac-10 teams that would have finished 2nd in either of the SEC's divisions. You have to admit that the SEC is relatively weak this year behind the two division winners. Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss, etc. seem to be a big jumble of mediocrity at best this year. Some non-con showings good (Georgia and USCjr beating GaTech and Clemson) and others not so much (UCLA beating us, Georgia's game at Okie Lite).

It's subjective and I don't think it's possible to say one conference is undoubtedly better than the other this year. Long term, you give the SEC the nod, as I said.

The other thing I've noticed traveling about the country (and I've managed to make it to Big 12 and SEC country quite a bit) is that many will be quick to opine on the quality of Pac-10 football when in reality they watch maybe one or two Pac-10 games a year.
