PAC 12 decides not to expand

Per Andy Katz:

The Pac-12 decided it won't expand further late Tuesday because commissioner Larry Scott failed to get assurance that Texas would back an equal revenue sharing plan if the league added the Longhorns, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, a source with direct knowledge told ESPN.com.

So yep, texas screwed everyone, (really everywhere) over yet again

we're stuck with A&M

I hope there will be a day when the SEC faithful no longer accepts that statement as fact. Just my opinion, but I believe all Aggies recognize the SEC isn't our right, but a privilege. We know we have to earn our stripes.

That, in and of itself, has always been the difference between A&M and Texas.

Nothing personal. It's just that adding the Aggies (and, therefore, some other team eventually) messes with the schedule, threatens rivalries, and generally screws around with an arrangement that SEC fans have been very satisfied with for the last 20 years. And the only people it benefits are the guys who get bonuses based on the numbers in the TV contracts. I have nothing against A&M (or West Virginia, or Mizzou, or whoever); it's just that from a fan's perspective, it's a bummer that we're screwing around with the league to bring these foreign teams in.

Rivalries start somewhere, right? USCjr and Arky aren't traditional in the SEC at all, but people got over that in a few years.

Texas is going to have to give it up. If they want to be the ones setting the rules in their own conference, they can go be independent with the Domers and Mormons and ****.

All the various radio stations in the area reporting the same thing -- texas wanting to have their cake and eat it too is killing the deal. Something will have to give

The difference is that 20 years ago there was a tradeoff -- yes, we are adding these other teams and yes, we are splitting into divisions and that's going to cost a few rivalry games (though not any of the big ones, something that isn't guaranteed this time) -- but in return you're getting division races and a conference championship game. And it was pretty obvious from the outset that that was going to be cool. This time there's nothing like that. If Slive came out and said, "Our goal is to get to sixteen teams so we can have four four-team divisions and a four-team championship tournament instead of just one game," fans would talk themselves into that pretty quickly. There's just no reason for SEC fans to actively like expansion this time.
