Thanks Pac-10. You've just set a new standard for the SEC to eclipse.

3 billion over 12 years per the NYT.

ESPN and Fox will share broadcast rights, and there will be a Pac-12 Network and an online service similar to ESPN3.

Larry Scott is amazing.

That's what happens when you replace an ancient dinosaur with a younger, business-savvy person.

vandy is a power in baseball, and significant in basketball.

They have an awesome bowling team, too... *cough.

And those sports are basically financially insignificant.

Well... Their mascot is a naval officer but they are in the middle of a land-locked state. That has got to be worth some novelty points.

Obviously indicates that they're not as intelligent as they claim to be.

Basketball is insignificant when compared to football. Very few schools turn a profit on basketball.

Basketball is more profitable for the NCAA, at least I think it is.

Most schools don't turn a profit on football either.

ncaa tourney is most of the ncaa's revenues. pac-12 makes little money from basketball. acc is the only real profitable basketball conference.

I believe it was about 15 schools that turned a profit in Football, Tennessee being one of them

don't think it's that low. Tenn's athletic department makes a profit which is extremely rare. any football program with over 40K in season ticket holders generally makes a profit, but that's not most schools.

I've never looked at the numbers but I would have thought the Big East would be close with basketball, but they do have some smaller arenas that might hurt.

my understanding is that most of that is the ESPN tv deal. UNC/Duke just by itself is a bunch of money.

The Commodore was most famous in Naval exploits for work he did in rivers.

He was also an incredible businessman who crushed his rivals and used government to fatten his corporate interests.

He was in many ways a predecessor to Immelt, and as such, he can not be a hero to any true capitalists. I wish all the hogs at the trough of corporate welfare would have their snouts cut off.

bottom line, is that the current sec deal now looks pretty mediocre.

no way, based on ratings, should the pac 12 get anywhere close to sec and big 10 money
