Just got a reliable phone call that the Capitol One Bowl has decided to take Arkansas.

That was a given.

UT should be on the phone to the Peach/Chicken Bowl and tell them they would like to pass on the Outback Bowl and go there instead. Considering UT has been there 3 of the last 4 Bowls they should be on a first name basis.

You kill me.

It wasn't a "given".

It was a last minute decision for them to take Arkansas.

Your agenda against the Outback Bowl is silly.

There was no way Capital 1 Bowl was going to pass on no.10 Auburn and no. 13 Arkansas to take no.18 UT. That makes no sense.

Bowls aren't about rankings and records, they're about getting the best possible matchup and making the most money possible.

Why would UT want to play no.30 PSU when they are currently ranked 18th?

Plus, the Outback Bowl had passed on UT twice taking weaker teams in the past.

This year the Peach/Chick Bowl actually is a better game with better competition.

Agreed. The best match-up is

no. 26 GA vs no. 30 PSU (Outback)
no. 14 Vtech vs no. 17 UT (Chick)

Considering UT has been there 3 of the last 4 Bowls they should be on a first name basis.

Tennessee went to consecutive Peach Bowls after the '02 and '03 seasons. Before that, they had not been there since the 1987 season when they beat Indiana.

Why would UT want to play no.30 PSU when they are currently ranked 18th?

Why would Tennessee pass on a more prestigious bowl game for more money played on traditionally significant New Year's Day? Because they skipped us in '03? Because you would rather play the Hokies?

It is irrelevant anyway; the Outback bid has been offered and accepted.

I'm happy with the bowl and the match up.

If we could have won a few more games, then we could piss and moan abot BCS vs non BCS, but second tier bowls are just that second tier.

Now it's about winning..

Capitol One Told Mike Hamilton that a Florida win, meant they were taking the Vols.

The comittee met today to OFFICIALY vote to invite the Vols. They began discussing last night's SEC Championship Game. There were voters that decided that because of the "excitement factor" of the Razorbacks, that they needed to look at Arkansas.

Arkansas let the Capitol One Bowl officials know today what they thought they could bring in fan numbers and the Capitol One comittee decided in the final minutes of the meeting, to invite the Hogs.

So if they told Mike Hamilton that then why is Arkansas in the Capital 1 bowl? Consider your sources....

Every news source I saw (Fox, Sportsline, CNNSI, etc) no one had UT projected into the Cap 1 bowl.

Keep reading. I explained why.

My sources are fine thank you.

OS, I'll have to give you some kudos. You broke the stories today. Thanks for putting us in the loop:eek:k:

Thats the best match-up based on record and rankings, which is what should carry the most weight.

The bowl with the most prestige and the highest payout carries the most weight.

I'm really disappointed with the entire bowl system. It makes no difference what your record is or who you have played.

UT was a top 10 team 3 years ago and they got stuck playing no .17 Clemson because the Outback Bowl passes on them.

This year instead of trying to go to the Peach/Chick and playing no. 14 VTech, the best competition, they go to the Outback to play no. 30 PSU, a team that has beaten one team with a winning record.

I doubt I watch any of these games except the NC game. They mean nothing and the whole Bowl system stinks.

Well..we are where we are....let's hope the Vols come out firing on all cylinders and bury the lions ... a big win over Penn State can't hurt recruiting...that's for sure!

Okla - Why are you so hung up on rankings? It's not like this is a new phenomenon. We've always known that Bowl selection is about 25% merit based and 75% financial. That's just the way it is . . . go play an intersectional matchup and pick up a check. It's not always ideal, but that's the system.

yep the bowl system sucks. it's always been about money and usually the match ups blow. it gets worse every year.

Doesn't PSU have some kid who was the #1 recruit a couple of years ago.. came down to the VOLS, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and PSU?

Although he probably already has, I hope this game makes him regret the decision.
