I just wanted to post a few things on Palardy. He was getting a lot of hate in the off-season that I really think he didn’t deserve. Butch has done a great job with him so far this year.

He leads the team in scoring, is 21-21 of XPTs, seems like he’s getting the ball off well and high.

He’s 80% on his FGs, with his one miss coming at 52 yards last week. Some NFL kickers can’t pull that off, especially when their holder blocks it... He’s averaging 2 yards better per punt than our opponents thus far with 5 of his punts being over 50 yards and 8 inside the 20, and only 3 touchbacks on 21 tries.

That’s some good numbers. Also, he’s recording nearly 30% of his Kickoffs as touchbacks. That’s a big number bc it cuts down on big returns.

So, congrats to Palardy and to Butch Jones for really coaching this kid up and giving him a good start to his Senior year. He’s one of the few bright spots from Kiffin’s class. I hope he continues to have success on the field and makes a clutch FG for us this season.

How is it that Darr isn't punting? Are they going to wear out Palardy's leg?

I think Palardy just has a better distance and touch. He's great at pinning that ball inside the 20yd line. I don't think Darr was as reliable.

And as far as wearing out the leg, I'd say Palardy and Butch both see that as a concern and limit him when he's not in a game.

I mean, soccer players kick 100 times more a game than Palardy does, look at goalies for instance, they punt the ball everytime they get it just about, it's probably not an issue.

When a new coaching staff comes aboard, at least one player really benefits from it. Crompton really improved when Kiffin came aboard. Now with bUTch on board, Palardy has improved alot.

Yea, I would say there's a lot more than one improvement with this staff. No reason not to give Palardy some credit for the hardwork he's put in.

I think Rajion Neal, Palardy, Sapp, and several other players have shown vast improvements over last season with this new staff.

Butch does get it, let's just hope the crazy minority of the fanbase doesn't run him off before he proves it.

He has done great this year.

He's done great and to be fair, the 52 yard miss last week probably goes on the holder. It wasn't just a clean kick that he missed.

It's hard to make a field goal when your holder blocks it. I would have loved to have seen how that*kick turned out. He has been extremely consistent but that was going to be the first time he was going to be tested to his limits. *

Palardy is working with the same kicking coach as my son in the off season. Former Vol James Wilhoit. Wilhoit is training 6 of the top 30 kickers in the US in HS.

I've always said Palardy had great leg talent, he just had some mental issues. Glad someone has been able to help him through those and its paying off big time so far.

I have faith he would have hit that 52 yarder, if not for that weird holder block lol. He hit one that long against Bama and he kicks them further than that in warm ups. The 44 yarder earlier this year was right on the money.

Here's the thing about Matt Darr.
A loyal VOL who wants to be a player.
Folks here love ribs and steaks;
Ice tea, cornbread, and bourbon cakes.
Matt however, often serves sheep shanks.
Coaches appreciate the offer but say no thanks.

With all due respect...:)

I agree. I think I'm weird too, not sure yet if copper or barb. But my understanding is that Matt shanked the ball a lot in spring practice.

Going into the season I said Palardy would be a finalist for both the Groza and Guy awards

The negative comments were justified. He's been very inconsistent since he arrived... to be one of the top ranked kickers in the nation out of high school. I for one hope he's finally solved whatever problems he had.

More impressive then XPs or FGs is his kickoffs. He's kicking the ball very well. More touchbacks this year then I can remember him doing in the past.

Props to Parlardy - he's living up to his recruiting hype his senior season! Hope he avoids the injury bug and finishes his UT career on a high note.
