I think we got our man . First,he brought the former players and coaches back to the hill . Second ,the players that where here bought in and played their butts off and never gave up. Third,he got the best class we've had in five years that knows what it is like to play for the Big Orange. I myself feel good about the way were heading. Thank you CBJ and staff for getting us on the right track. I look forward to the next year's with hope and that's saying a lot. It's the first time in awhile that I've seen the players working toward a goal. Give them hell Butch. Go big Orange...Sunshine pump is wide open.

Good post.

This is our best class on paper since 2005 and 2007. Hopefully this one pans out much better. I think it will, we don't have high risk kids in this class like we did in those.

I definitely am happy with what I see in his history of team leadership, his incredible recruting efforts this year, his bringing "honor" back to the program and his bringing back the alumni and coaches.

I cant say I am equally happy in how he got last years team to "play their butts off". I feel like some games they did (USCocks) and some games they did not (Vandy). I dont think that was all his fault and some players (Palardy) he clearly was able to help them reach to their potential. Others (will be nice and not name them) simply let themselves, us and CBJ down this year. Granted, a number of those are no longer with the team so I definitely expect better things from this year's team, which will be younger but also comprised of Butch personal pics and those who he has had time to motivate.

So lets definitely look forward to this year - no sunshine pumping needed because we have solid reasons to do so - but lets not gloss over the fact that last season's player performance on the field was mostly a disappointment. We can have orange colored glasses without wearing blinders. :number1:

I'm not going to let myself have Great Expectations until 2015, but I am looking forward to seeing what CBJ can do with this great recruiting class. lots of Studs to work with

To whom much is given, much is expected. CBJ and staff appear to be working diligently to return Tennessee to the glory days.

Victories on the recruiting trail translates to victories on the field(most of the time). VN has plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future. :clapping:

While I hope that Jones is in fact the guy, your second point is false. They didn't even show up for Oregon, Bama, or Mizzou.

The jury is still VERY much out on their ability to actually coach a football team. All the other stuff is good and necessary but doesn't mean a thing if you can't outcoach the guy across the field on gameday.

Maybe not you... but many here that would agree with this statement are predicting or rationalizing a USU loss. Those are inconsistent ideas.

I think Butch and his coaches did a good job. How many other teams in the SEC (or nation) had the QB problem we had. Not Butch's fault. He had to deal with what was left. Worley has the number 1 QB and he had a total of what, 2 games played last year? Then Worley got hurt and went with a freshman in Dobbs. (yeah I know Peterman started at Florida). We had no back ups anywhere on this team. But with this recruiting class we should have some back ups now. Butch is going to get it done here.

Past? He has nothing to do with it.
Present? Yep, that's where he fits. He seems to fit very well.
Future? Far from clear but there is hope in the air!

I am sold on Butch Jones as the right coach at the right time. I'm very hopeful that the right time lasts a long, long time. It's far too early to declare victory though.

Didn't say it was Butch's fault and I am super glad to have him as HC - but don't sit here and tell me that the players "played their butts off" last year, because that didn't happen. Also, CBJ is the alpha dog and both the credit and the blame ultimately rest on his shoulders. If we had made it 8-5 and won a bowl game, he would be getting all the credit and rightly so. I think CBJ has done a very good job so far but football only rewards winners and the job he has done will eventually have to come out on the field - as I believe it WILL. Again, rah rah Butch - but that doesn't mean I deny that last year I was disappointed in our team performance.

Bowl or bust this year, baby...2015 we're going to Atlanta or bust.

2015, most likely having a new QB starting. I don't think personally that CBJ will not start Worley. He may not be the most talented on the team but most experienced. I think 2015 will be 8-9 wins but 2016 will be the yr of the Vols. We will have experience, dept and the maturation of the last 2 classes.

I won't overexpect this year so I'll say 6-6 and maybe 7-6 with a bowl win, we all hope.

Next year should be a bit better if we keep recruiting well.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football so maybe we should try to protect our best recruiters with a pay raise since they WILL be targeted soon by other schools.

We simply MUST protect our best assets no matter what!

I believe we're finally back on the right road but we have to stay on the right road every year to get back where we belong as a consistent National Power.

I was skeptical on the hire at the time it happened as I was one of those hoping for Gruden. But it is really nice to be excited about whats going on down in Knoxville again. Would love to see a bowl game this year and a winning record! Sunshine pumping here!

The problem against Vandy was not effort, it was a lack of ability and execution, especially on offense. Why do fans always think that the reason you lose is because "we didn't want it bad enough" or "the coaching sucked." Sometimes, you just dont have enough ability across the field.

And, before you start with "neither did Vandy," I would say that the two teams were pretty much evenly matched (I know that is sad, but it is reality), Vandy got the ball last, and was able to put it in the endzone and win the game.

The reason we lost at Vandy is because the players basically gave up in the last 2 minutes and let Vandy run the friggen field. Perhaps the players were just tired of being whupped on (3 losses in a row to tough teams) but thats not how you become champions

I don't understand why people have to throw ur first pt around as if it's something special to CBJ. Last time I checked Dooley had multiple former players on STAFF. There's no better way of inviting former players back than hiring them to be a coach...imho. Manning and Berry did camps. Last time I checked most people can't just go back to their grade schools, and walk around all willy nilly without checking in so why would it be good policy to have players just coming around the facilities without at least checking in.

Inviting former coaches back..like who?? Majors? Kiffin got him on campus iirc and Dooley did too. Heck Majors said Dooley would succeed. Dooley even had Gruden on campus to start the '12 season and look how that turned out! Biggest backfire of all time as this place created such a nega-storm that no one remembers how hard that '12 Vols team played. Not sure about u but I remember thinking we had a chance of winning many games into the 4th. Remember blocking the fake punt attempt by Florida at the end of the 3rd?? If bray hadn't forced the tired D out there by going 3 and out...who knows???

Can't stand how people were so blinded with the gruden crap they couldn't see how hard that depleted D played their butts off, and got left hanging by an O that couldn't put the game away. Ie Florida, Mizzou.

So you don't think it's good for new recruits to see former players that made it to the NFL on there visits to K-town. And I believe input from Johnny and Phil is a good thing.
