Had Sky Box Seat tickets given to me for the game yesterday. Heard a new name being tossed around alot up there. I heard Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald's name mentioned at least 5 or 6 times by different groups of people. No link or source just repeating what I was hearing.. Go Big Orange:hi:

If he's willing to leave his Alma mater, which for the right price and situation I think he would, I think he'd be a fine hire. I don't think VN would be too excited as a whole, at least at first. He isn't a "big name". I threw his name out a few weeks ago and didn't really get any responses, good or bad.

Was just talking about him yesterday.

Don't want him here, I don't think he'd fit in...but I like him. Helluva coach!!

Most there seemed to think he would leave NW for Tenn. Some felt he was the top candidate.

Those of us that will say no thanks answer this.

Would you take him over Kirby smart?

That's a measuring stick I hope we don't have to discuss but possible

Fitz is one of my favorite coaches in CFB. No chance this happens, but it would be fantastic if it did.

I think there would be worse hires but would probably take Smart just for the defense and SEC ties. The 0-4 in bowls is a little alarming but think there is just better options out there than those 2. But again I wouldnt be pissed just surprised.

Well, it is Northwestern...I suspect that they have played equal or better competition in those bowl games

Best thing about the name it is not DD, LOL would be an upgrade, heck almost anyone would be an upgrade.

Can u explain why? Not being a Smart @$# just curious. Thanx

Essentially has a lifetime contract at NW and has a great thing going there. Stadium upgrades are coming soon and they overachieved in a down year yet again (7-3, were expected by most to finish 6-6).

I think he would in a heartbeat. The facilities, budget, Salary wouldnt even be close. Actually I posted earlier I would take Smart over him but changed my mind. Think he would do a good job here if he could get a DC that could stop somebody. I just dont know enough about him but what I have watched of NW his teams have seemed to play hard and fun to watch. In particular when they played AU in a bowl a few yrs ago. His team was out talented but gave AU all they wanted and should have beaten them.

Salary isn't that important to him. If it was he would've taken the Michigan job two years ago as he was rumored to.

I remember the AU game well and AU by far had the better talent but NW should have won. He's not that HR hire or my first choice but we definitely could do alot worse and actually have. He's been roaming our sidelines the past 3 yrs. With a good DC, world class facilities and a big time recruiting budget he could probably do pretty well. Not sure he could be the NC or SEC Champ type coach we want but then again maybe he could be. Who knows. Just dont think he would be anywhere close to the top of UT's list.
