Let's back Pat and her program! She'll know when it's time. Hopefully we'll know by the end of spring if not before. Recruiting needs to start as soon as possible. Who wiill be making the trip, Pat and her son Tyler or Pat and some of her staff? We need to get back to at least the Elite 8 or Final 4. There are times when this team didn't put forth their best. It when they played Kentucky-the first game was a 1 point loss and the next time the Lady Vols blew out the Lady Wildcats. This team could have been a top 5 or 6 and was just barely outside that. They should not have lost more than 5 games and those to the top 4 teams.

This is the point of view I just don't understand. She won't know for sure when it's time. She should retire right now. Case closed.

Her family sits her down and attempts to reason with her why it is not a good idea. If that doesn't work, as much as I hate to say it, she should be forced to retire.

That was pretty much what I was getting at to. I really hope it doesn't come to that last statement but my worst fear is it will.

Knowing that is basically her admitting defeat and we all know that she won't admit that. Not just her but any coach will keep saying they can even when everyone knows they can't, it is the make up of a coach. Sometimes the outside point of view is the correct one.

Thank you. I was just about to fix it when I saw your post

It's not Pat's program. It is the University of Tennessee Lady Vols program led by Pat.

There would not be the game as it is today without Pat. And, Pat is not your regular coach or regular type person. Some may forget that.

I never forgot anything. I give Pat all the credit, it is not her University. I asked this board earlier, are you a fan of the LV program or a fan of Pat's LV program?

Both. Inseparable at this point for me.

Larry, I don't agree with some things you post, but this wasn't aimed toward your post.:good!:

For all those who say that Pat will know when it's time to step down, and that she will do what's best for the program:

Can I just gently remind you that the definition of dementia is losing your ability to reason, and think clearly, and act consistently with the person that you used to be?

Some of those who have had experience with loved ones with Alzheimer's and other dementias have seen sweet, gentle souls suddenly start swearing like dockhands, using words that no one had ever heard them use before. Others have seen loving family members turn vicious and cruel toward loved ones, without provocation. (Certainly not saying that this is happening here; just an example of how dementia can change people.)

It's very possible that, depending on the progression of the disease, CPS might not be able to make this decision when it needs to be made. I genuinely hope that this isn't so, but it's really something that we should keep in mind.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as she wants to continue coaching. She has always done a lot of behind the scenes stuff people know nothing about like signing an autograhed picture and mailing to my mom as she died of breast cancer. I know she supported a ot of people like that She single-handedly built the program and brought the interest to college girl's basketball. She's a pillar at UT as it is and should be as long as she desires.

did you read any of the govolsxtra articles, she's had this condition for 2 or 3 years and it's worse. I feel she needs to retire, it's not going to help lady vols team if you have a coach that's become a figure head only.

Joe, was it stated as fact or speculation? I must have missed that article and can't find it. Thanks.

it was the story written by John Adams i believe. He gives example of things he noticed about her and he talked about it.

from reading the article, i get the feeling that she's not going to be able to coach effectively next year.

here is a portion of the article that was written:

MOORE KNEW

Billie Moore knows Lady Vols basketball as well as anyone.

The former UCLA women's basketball coach hasn't just followed the Lady Vols. She has studied them as a favor to Summitt, a longtime friend whom Moore once coached on the U.S. Olympic team.

In a June 5, 1999 photograph, Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt, right, chats with former UCLA and U.S. Olympic women's basketball coach Billie Moore at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
Moore, who lives in the Los Angeles area, frequently visited Knoxville during basketball season. She analyzed Tennessee videotape and conferred with Summitt game after game, season after season. She gave the program an extra set of trained eyes, which sometimes saw things that others couldn't.

"I first noticed a change when these seniors were freshmen (three years ago), Moore said, as she watched the Lady Vols practice the day before their game at UCLA on Dec. 17.

Whatever strategy an opponent implemented, Moore instinctively anticipated an immediate countermove by Summitt. She was puzzled when Summitt didn't respond

Thanks. I read that one. Yeah, several people have noted the same well after the fact but never said anything at the time. Still speculation, IMO. Thanks, though, appreciate it.:hi:
