Pate: stadium atmosphere

All I know is that I know a big Bama fan who does play by play for HS football down here in Bama; he says that Neyland is his favorite place to watch a college football game.

This is another attempt by a uga fan to "notice us!!! Tell us how awesome we are" and the usual VolDawgs fell for it.

Sanford is a decent stadium, except for the fans who sit there.
They won a couple of trophies so now they’re the new Bama and are doing the Bama thing where you’re supposed to praise them for their fandom. Except you never see them show up at anything not football. At least those drooling Bama psychos do that.

In other words… you parked on Baxter Ave lol.
Been there done that.

I don’t think we want to compare Neyland’s bathroom and concession situation to anybody. Neyland has a great facade, great location and great atmosphere, but those concourses, restrooms and concessions are about 30 years behind the times. Sanford is a good place to watch a game provided you’re not up in the 600 level which feels closer to the sun than the field.

I sat in the GA season ticket holder section, maybe 20 rows up. More rednecks than you can find in my west TN town of 900 people. Maybe they upgraded their bathrooms, but this was in the season ticket holder section. It’s not all that all.

The thing is, and there’s not really any way for them to deny it, their fan base is wretched in the way they treat opposing fans. We have been going to games their since early 1980s - 1982 if I recall correctly, and their fans are consistently- and by far - worse than anywhere else. Way way worse than anything I have ever seen at LSU or the swamp.
Just not close.
I’ve personally seen my dad - who is about 134 years old - get attacked in the bathroom. I once saw a little old lady get told she was “gonna take it doggie style” by a literally screaming group of morons. You can’t walk down the street down there and not get harassed. And it’s not like LSU where they taunt you and then invite you in like family.
Nope, not at UGA. It’s like they are insulted and feel violated by the presence of opposing fans - which at its core is kinda’ the whole idea of sport. With no opposition, what’s the point? Sorry, I digress.

Hell, you guys remember all the trash they used to leave everywhere that made national news about how they trash their own campus at games ? That’s in their DNA. They only reason it quit was the school banning the tailgating on campus (or threatening to- I can’t remember).
Their Johnny come lately nouveau riche attitude is just all over them, and you can’t wash tacky off.
To tell with UGA.
Nice campus though.

After having sat in the last row of the upper deck in Baton Rouge this past season, I have never been as far away from a football field than that. Not even at Bristol where I had lower level seats almost in the turn.

I agree that's a long way over there (I was sitting across from you at the same elevation). Binoculars help.

As for Bristol, long ago, I matched the scale of a picture to Google earth and superimposed it over Bristol Motor Speedway. I measured from the south goal post to my seat and it was around 110 yards. I don't have the screenshot from that mental exercise, however I do remember where it put me in respect to Neyland. In the middle of the G10 parking deck.

If you look at the picture, the things happening at the other end zone were 200 or more yards away. Even with Binoculars it was awful. I was relying on jumbotron, but the guy running it loved putting pictures of the fans, cheerleaders, people eating peanuts etc. Rarely did they put something on there that involved the game. Glad I was there. That was the biggest crowd (not only college but NFL) to ever watch a football game.

No one questions it? Speak for yourself Personally I beg to differ…. A lot. I live here in GA and all I heard about is how amazing it is. So I was genuinely excited to go

We walked through the projects to get to the stadium. Stadium looked tossed together. Bathrooms made Neylands look like a spa, and the concession stands were cash only.

Go ahead and get on that band wagon but don’t try and drag us along.

Not saying Athens is a dump except the area you mentioned (I parked off Broad St, but got onto Baxter to get to the stadium. What a crap hole area), but every list of “Best SEC Towns” has them 1 or 2 overall. When I went I was like, “Is this it? What is the big deal about this place?” Knoxville is easily just as good if not better. Honestly like Auburn better than Athens. I sat in the lower bowl of the stadium in the UT section because I didn’t want some grown ass man barking in my face. It was a nice stadium, but nothing awe-inspiring, like Michigan/OSU/PSU/Bama/A&M/LSU/Notre Dame/Oklahoma.

It isn’t.. unless it has vastly improved from the late 90s.. it was small with hedges.. with incredibly uncomfortable seating, nothing in particular to write home about… Death Valley, though, that is impressive
