Pats - Giants Rematch

Nevertheless, it's still a random occurrence. The point is odds are they won't force 2 fumbles against the Giants, let alone 5.

In 17 games they've forced 25 fumbles, or 1.47 per game.

They recovered 3 fumbles against the Saints, the other two were INTs. The odds are they will force at least two turnovers against the Giants.

They did force 5 fumbles, but if they aren't recovered then they are pretty much a moot point

A FF is usually very disruptive to a drive, even if possession isn't lost.

The point is you can't expect to win the turnover battle by a large margin.

In 18 games the Giants had 21 picks and 18 FF's.

In 17 games the 49ers have had 25 INT's and 25 FF's.

39/18 = 2.2/game
50/17 = 2.9/game

Odds are if they have a turnover advantage, it's only a slight one. That's the point. You can't count on those random occurrences.

The Niners led the league in turnover differential all year, they are playing against a quarterback that has been very interception prone at times throughout his career, and they win the turnover battle by 2 whole turnovers a game. It is hard to see anything but an advantage for the Niners going into the game in that particular area.

I still can't see why you are referring to turnovers as "random occurences." Most turnovers are forced, and anyone that watched that game will tell you the same about what transpired. Can they count on forcing 5? No. But the stats will tell you that they are a team that decisively wins the turnover battle, and that's not just random luck.

Because the 49ers will force 5 fumbles in 1 game and then they'll go 3 weeks without forcing one.

They have failed to force a turnover in 2 games this year

They have failed to force a fumble in 2 games as well. In one of those games, they still managed 2 turnovers

The Patriots would probably rather play the 49ers. Eli will carve that crap defense up like a turkey. Wouldn't mind seeing Brady get knocked around all day either. Although they'd call roughing penalties for breathing on the messiah.

I haven't watched one game all season that there wasn't a BS roughing the passer call. Bill Simmons has deemed this the touch football era, and that's what it is.

I agree. That one on Rodgers last week was particularly glaring as a BS call.

Davis and Smith are playing at a higher level, as is Crabtree. The Giants still won't be able to run the ball
Vernon Davis has 2 good games and all of a sudden he's a beast?

He didn't do squat when it really counted (fantasy football season).

Turnovers:

49ers = 2
Giants = 0

Like I said, turnovers are completely random.

49ers got completely screwed, the Bradshaw fumble was one of the worst blown calls I have seen in the playoffs. No question it was a fumble and if called correctly, SF has the ball in Giant territory with little clock left.

Ravens dropped pass in the endzone should have gotten more review...at the very least. I feel for Ray Lewis.

It should have been reviewed, but I think the right call was made. At least is wasnt an obvious terrible call like the bradshaw non fumble.

Agreed. That was an awful call.

I think that's Lex the Vol fan saying that... Gaffney

That wasn't a TD, and neither was the Ravens.

As long as Ray Lewis never wins a super bowl i'm happy. Why would he pay 1 million to settle a civil suit of the daughter of a man killed in Atlanta in 2000 if he had nothing to do with it?
Ravens' Lewis reaches settlement with victim's daughter - NFL - CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy Advice

It's crazy how basically Ray Lewis gets a free pass.

That being said, settling outside of court doesn't mean he was guilty, it means he was scared of what the jury would think and maybe award the plaintiff. Stallworth settled out of court even though the accident was caused by the jaywalker.

They still forced a fumble and caused the Giants to turn it over on downs, and BearCat is right on the Bradshaw fumble, that whistle was ridiculous. Turnovers are not completely random.

That's only half the battle.

5 turnovers forced last week against a team who protects the ball extremely well and 0 yesterday against a team that is average when it comes to protecting possession. Turnovers are completely random.
