Chick-fil-A is a good company. I don't see a problem with the change.

It's not about the company. It's about dropping the "peach" in the name. Yes, I know it's happening all over the place. But if there is one thing Georgians are proud of it's the peach references.

They actually grow more peaches in South Carolina than in Georgia. Also, the artcle said it has been the Peach Bowl since 1968. That's not exactly a long history.

Bah, I still call teh Capital One Bowl the Citrus Bowl about half the time. I understand the need for conference championships, but I do prefer it when they leave the original name of the bowl in the title.

Still, it would have been nice to go to the Pampers or Preparation H or Tidy Bowl this year, traditionally named or not...

I will probably still call it the Peach Bowl.

South Carolina is not known as the Peach State either or have the peach in every souvenir sold in the state. Or have thousands of streets named for peach something or another. Considering that's how long it's been in existence and holding that name, I'd say it's the game's entire history.

It's a second rate bowl and they want to try and move it up to first tier. What's the problem? Sometimes change is a good thing

Also, the peach became the SC state fruit in 1984 while it became the state fruit of GA in 1995. The Peach Bowl should be in SC.

They need to rename it "Tennessee-Plays-Like-Crap-Here" Bowl.

Or the "Crap, Tennessee Would like to play here" Bowl.

there is no way the "chick-fil-a bowl" will ever be a first tier bowl because it is all about the money those other cities make from having the BCS bowls in their town, they are not going to let all of that money leave their cities and it's gonna take a little more than a name change to obtain a BCS bowl in atl. and you have to agree that the majority if not everybody knows georgia as the peach state, thats the whole point of it being called the Peach Bowl. in my opinion the "chick-fil-a bowl" sounds almost as bad as one of those ".com bowls"

Look. The reason that the top four BCS bowls are in that tier is because they were the bowls making the highest payouts to participating schools at the time the BCS was established. The article says that Chick-fil-A is giving something like $30 million for the name. That money will result in a higher payout to the schools. If the Chick-fil-A bowl is paying more than the Fiesta or Orange next time the contract is negotiated it might get bumped up. I can't see the Rose Bowl ever getting bumped down just on the basis of tradition. Who knows what will happen to the Sugar Bowl (which is another area of opportunity for the C-f-A Bowl)? Do you really believe that Chick-fil-A needs the pub from taking the Peach out of the title? I imagine that some Atlanta booster like Spurgeon Richardson went to the Chick-fil-A people and asked them to do this. The Chick-fil-A people have to justify the expenditure somehow so they say they are buying the title.

All that to say, YEAH CAPITALISM!

The capitalism part is probably more about getting more prestige for their bowl so fans will feel like they can't miss it if their team makes it to the Chick-fil-A bowl and the city can fill hotels, retaurants, etc. than it is about advertising for Chick-fil-A. All I am trying to say is that this should not be viewed as some callous activity by Chick-fil-A.

I can't wait to see someone dressed in a large Peach costume carrying a picket sign in front of the local Chick-fil-A.
