Pearl in St. Louis On Iowa

Then there is the weather to consider. Like Milwaukee, Iowa has nine months of winter and three months of poor skating. Actually it can also get very hot in the summer, hotter than Knox. Not an attractive place, environmentally.

Pearl is around 50 years old. Iowa is in worse shape than UT when Pearl first took over. Don't see him going to a rebuilding job now. Not with what he has here.

Just like Kiffin wouldn't go to USC, Bryce Brown wouldn't leave, Douglas wouldn't leave, etc...?

Good points mister "Tennessee is going to lose to whoever they play in the first round, regardless"

Well people thought the rumors of Kiffin to USC were ridiculous too but we all know how that turned out.

Not the same situation at all!!!! He's not lobbying for a raise either, he simply said its a good job and community. He spent some years there, I think it's allowed!!! Get used to the attention and don't blame said attention on Bruce, its what happens when you have a successful coach (its been awhile on the Hill).

I'm a Big 10 fella and feel that Iowa would certainly not be a step up for Pearl. Iowa City is out in the middle of nowhere and they will always struggle to be anything more than mediocre.

He just said it was an attractive job NATIONALLY. I interpret that as saying its a big name coaching job, not that he wanted to go.

I agree. I think it's the type thing where he sort of hopes they find a good coach, and they do well. He just doesn't consider himself the guy for that job.
With the recruits he has coming in here next year, I really think he would really have to be offered a billion dollars to leave.

I think Bruce is just trying to get Iowa to look at some of his assistants like Tony Jones and Steve Forbes.

I absolutely agree. I think it is safe to say we lose a lot of assistants / GA's. Fancher is gone for sure and I think its finally time we lose some assistants

I don't think he is going anywhere, but with that being said, calipari having the number 1 class at memphis didn't hold him back to leave and hold together the number 1 class at kentucky

Big difference in UK offering a coach a job and Iowa offering a coach a job...

Personally, I think Pearl is here as long as we want him. He's built a program capable of attracting high level recruits, he has the facilities, and he has a fanbase that still doesn't consider themselves a "basketball school" which means that he doesn't have to feel the hotseat if he has a down year or two now. Also, his kid is playing here, which I think will end up benefitting UT more in the long run once little Pearl is gone. Parents tend to grow quite fond of the college team that puts their child on the floor.

It's not impossible that some school lures him away, but I won't worry until/unless he's mentioned for traditional power jobs like Kansas, UNC, UK, UCLA, etc. And honestly, I don't think he gets those offers unless he gets a championship (or at least a final four or two) at UT. Then the question becomes, "Why would he leave when he has taken UT that far?"

Im not going to say Pear wont leave but I dont think this is the year ,he has one of his best recruiting classes and the #4 class at that coming in this year and this could be the class that gets Tn in the NCG.I hope the current class takes another step towards the NCG tonite. My take on it , Pearl doesnt leave and plus a Tn girl wont fit well in Iowa and Im sure she will have the biggest input.
