Pearl is a better basketball coach than Calipari

Let me put it another way, only a idiot would say recruiting is part of coaching. What part of coaching is it exactly? Look it up in the dictionary and see if you can find the word recuiting in any definition. Every time anyone evaluates a head coach they always examine both attributes separately. Recuiting is a big part of a coaches job description but thats as far as it goes.

You said that no AD in the country would "lump together" recruiting and coaching when choosing a head coach, which means that ADs consider them completely separately. So how exactly does the hiring process work? You think the AD says, "Okay, this time we need a recruiter!" or "This time we need a coach!" and then goes out and hires one or the other?

ADs evaluate everything and then lump it all together when making a hiring decision. I guess you can parse out exactly what it means to "lump together" recruiting and coaching but the fact is that ADs have to considering the total package when hiring a coach. I don't care how good a coach you are, if you aren't recruiting well then you're not going anywhere. And vice versa.

Congrats to the Vols. The Gators are pulling for you tomorrow. (we were not pulling for UK)

And Pearl is a helluva coach.

Just saying, being a great recruiter does not make a great coach/teacher/x & o man. Nothing more.

I don't know that there is anything wrong with Cal's X's and O's. He just ran into a buzzsaw last night. I was on the phone with a huge UK fan in the first half. I kept saying "UK is doing the right thing not allowing anything in the paint. No way WV can win the game just jacking up threes all night."

I have never seen a team go an entire half without a two point field goal. To do that and still have a two point lead? Amazing.

Then they come out in the 2nd half and hit two more? It finally forced UK to come out there on defense. That opened up the lanes for some drives to the hoop. After that UK was in deep trouble.

I thought he played it right. To WVU's credit, they kept knocking down shots from downtown. Not much a coach can do about that.

so it's not Cal's fault his team went 4-32 from 3pt and 16-29 (55%) from the ft line? The buzzsaw UK ran into was of their own making

as was said on ESPN this morning, has a Cal coached team ever actually practiced FT's?
