Let me put it another way, only a idiot would say recruiting is part of coaching. What part of coaching is it exactly? Look it up in the dictionary and see if you can find the word recuiting in any definition. Every time anyone evaluates a head coach they always examine both attributes separately. Recuiting is a big part of a coaches job description but thats as far as it goes.
You said that no AD in the country would "lump together" recruiting and coaching when choosing a head coach, which means that ADs consider them completely separately. So how exactly does the hiring process work? You think the AD says, "Okay, this time we need a recruiter!" or "This time we need a coach!" and then goes out and hires one or the other?
ADs evaluate everything and then lump it all together when making a hiring decision. I guess you can parse out exactly what it means to "lump together" recruiting and coaching but the fact is that ADs have to considering the total package when hiring a coach. I don't care how good a coach you are, if you aren't recruiting well then you're not going anywhere. And vice versa.
